Restoring the Skin's Natural Barrier | CeraVe Skincare

As you might be well aware, I have suffered from eczema for the last few years. I have tried so many different products to try and reduce my skin irritation and keep it calm. I had heard lots of good reviews about CeraVe skincare products and was excited at the prospect of trying them out.

For those of you who haven't heard of CeraVe before, they are a range of skincare products for all skin types, developed with the expertise of dermatologists. As the affordable, accessible, dermatologist-recommended solution to hydrate, restore, and replenish skin. In 2005, CeraVe’s board of dermatologists developed a line of skincare products enriched with a blend of three essential ceramides (ceramides 1, 3, and 6-II), fatty acids, and other lipids to help repair and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier. With a variety of simple skincare products available, they are an affordable alternate to dermatologist recommend skincare.

I have been using a few of the products for the last few months courtesy of CeraVe. As an eczema sufferer, I was excited to see the brand is endorsed by Eczema Association Australasia.

Hydrating Cleanser* | $12.99

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser was developed with dermatologists to cleanse and refresh the skin without over-stripping it or leaving it feeling tight and dry. Featuring three types of essential ceramides to restore the skin’s natural barrier and hydrating hyaluronic acid, this non-comedogenic face wash is an effective yet non-irritating way to start off any skincare regimen for normal to dry skin—and it uses MVE Delivery Technology to supply the skin with a steady stream of nourishment throughout the day and night. Suitable for normal to dry skin.

I had so many people recommend this cleanser to me after I tried my first CeraVe product. Everyone literally raved about how good it was. For an affordable product, I have been very impressed. I don't tend to like spending lots of money on my cleansing, because it's a product you simply wash off your skin. However, I do find a number of affordable cleansers to be drying and not great for my skin. This one has been fantastic!

It is a creamy cleanser that helps to remove make up and cleanse the skin without drying or leaving your skin feeling stripped. It has been heavenly to use through the cooler months as it has helped with my flaky and irritated skin. I have found my skin is less dry and feels calm following cleanser thanks to this guy.

Facial Moisturising Lotion* | $12.99

Developed with dermatologists, CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion effectively moisturises and helps to restore the protective skin barrier of the face and neck. This lightweight, non-greasy lotion, with 3 essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid, provides all day hydration after just one use. CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion is fragrance free, paraben-free, allergy tested & non-comedogenic. Eczema Association Australasia™ endorsed, suitable for acne prone skin, eczema and psoriasis prone skin, and dry skin.

In the cooler months, I try to go super gentle and calming with my moisturiser, and this one has been absolutely perfect. It is a lightweight moisturiser, that is also extremely hydrating. It contains hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance found in the skin to keep it refreshed, stable and encourages skin cell renewal. However, it's most loved for its incredible water retention properties. Basically, it's a great ingredient to help increase hydrating in your skin.

As a dry skin girl, I loved the sound of this moisturiser - purely from the fact that it contains hyaluronic acid. It has been a really lovely moisturiser too. It is such a lovely moisturiser too. It has very quickly become my go to moisturiser when I have either gone too hard on my acids, or my skin is just a little irritated from the weather (or hormones). It's been great under make up, because it isn't thick and doesn't leave any residue on your skin. It has been calming my skin, helping to rehydrate it and increase my skins overall hydration. While it is designed for acne prone skin, I can't say I've seen it helping to reduce my blemishes, but as it doesn't clog the skin it has hasn't made them worse.

Moisturising Cream* | from $12.99

CeraVe Moisturising Cream both effectively hydrates and helps restore the skin’s natural protective barrier. Developed with dermatologists and ideal for dry and very dry skin on the face and body, this rich, non-greasy, fast-absorbing moisturising cream features patented MVE Delivery Technology to release a steady stream of hyaluronic acid and three essential ceramides throughout the day and night. Suitable for sensitive skin, this oil-free, paraben free and fragrance-free ceramide cream also helps the skin hold on to moisture while improving its look and feel. Suitable for dry skin, very dry skin, and the face or body.

This is the product that I have used the least, but it is also slowly becoming one of my favourites. While I am yet to try it on my face, I have been using it on my body - arms and legs and anywhere else that needs it. It, along with the Moisturising Lotion, has done wonders for my eczema. I had kind of just convinced myself that I would live with itchy and dry skin forever, but since bringing this into my life, my skin has been so calm and happy.

The Moisturising Cream is quite thick, but massages into the skin quickly and easily. It leaves the skin feeling extremely hydrated, without being a pain to get tights or pants on. My skin hasn't felt dry, flaky or irritated since I started using it either. This gets the big tick of approval from me!

Moisturising Lotion* | from $13.99

CeraVe Daily Moisturising Lotion is a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser for very dry skin that helps hydrate the skin and restore its natural barrier. Formulated with three essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid, this moisturising lotion features patented MVE Technology for long-lasting hydration and a lightweight, non-comedogenic formula that won’t clog pores. Hypoallergenic and non-irritating, this fragrance free moisturiser is suitable for dry to very dry skin, and is gentle on the skin by providing a steady stream of 24-hour hydration.

This was the product that CeraVe won me over with. It is a lightweight moisturiser that is extremely hydrating and does wonders for my eczema. Throughout winter, it was the ONLY moisturiser I used on my body and it was a GAME changer. I don't think I have used a moisturiser quite like this one before. It isn't scent, it is so simple, but it works so well.

Being lightweight, it almost feels like I haven't applied moisturiser at all, but my skin feels hydrated and instantly calm (again, my go-to when eczema is bad). It is perfect underneath clothing, not annoying and uncomfortable with your clothes getting stuck on the hydration. My skin has been feeling hydrated for longer, my eczema has been less frequent and annoying. It's basically a miracle worked for my skin! I am already onto my second bottle of this too. I just discovered they have a litre bottle and I will be buying that.

Reparative Hand Cream* | $8.99

CeraVe Reparative Hand Cream moisturises the hands with hyaluronic acid, calms the skin with niacinamide and replenishes the skin’s natural barrier with three essential ceramides. This fragrance-free hand cream also contains the skin protectant dimethicone, and the water-resistant, non-greasy, fast-absorbing, non-irritating formula features patented MVE Delivery Technology for 24-hour nourishment that restores and maintains smooth, soft skin.

I am a big fan of hand creams that have Hyaluronic Acid in them. My hands seem to be constantly dry and cracked, particularly around my nails. I am trying to be better at applying hand cream more frequently, but I often forget. So if I can find a hand cream that helps to maintain moisture then it's a huge selling point for me.

I LOVE this hand cream. It's lightweight, with no greasy residue (another massive win for me), however it is also extremely hydrating and helps to increase moisture in your hands. It's also a really decent size, so you can leave it on your desk or bedside table, or chuck it in your hand bag and take it with you.

So it's probably safe to say that I have very quickly become a big fan of CeraVe products. They are simple, no fuss products that are gentle on the skin, but also are super effective. I will definitely be continuing to use these year round, particularly on my skin. I am already thinking about replacing all of my other body care with just this brand! I just need a good soap from this brand too.

If you are interested in purchasing CeraVe in Australia, they are available exclusively from Chemist Warehouse.
