Best in Beauty 2018 : Skincare

I know, I know, I should've done this during December, but oh well, here we are, we are doing it now. It's time for me to share my Best in Beauty awards for 2018. Today we are going to be talking about skincare.
If you missed the last Best in Beauty, I have already shared my favourite make up products through 2018 over here. Make sure you head over and check it out if you haven't already.

My Best in Beauty awards go to products that I really loved during 2018. Not necessarily products that came out in 2018, but products that I fell in love with during the year. Today we are talking all things skincare - both face and body.

The first step is cleansers. I haven't really fallen in love with a cleanser in a long time. I tend to use whatever cleanser I have been trialling at the time without much care. I don't tend to splurge on cleansers, because it is something I am going to wash off my face, so it won't be there long enough to do much. However, in 2018 I fell in love with the Fresh Soy Cleanser. It is a gentle gel cleanser (I didn't like gel cleansers before this one) that removes make up easily and leaves skin feeling so soft and clean after removal. I don't know what it is about this cleanser, but I am a little obsessed. It is the first cleanser in years that I have repurchased more than once.

Toners were something I didn't use much of in 2018. In starting to move towards a more minimal skincare routine, I cut out the toner step. However, the toner that lasted me throughout most of the year (thanks to the massive 500mL pump bottle they sent me at the beginning of the year) was the Pixi Glow Tonic*. It is a beautiful toner that is great for all skin types. It is a glycolic based toner that I have found helps with my blemishes and also my skin texture. When I am not being lazy and I decide to use this on a regular basis, I do notice that my skin feels softer and looks glowier thanks to this.

This was an easy one for me to choose. My favourite face serum during 2018 has to be the Biologi Luminosity Face Serum. I was given this as a gift for my birthday in September and it was the only skincare product that I used for three months straight. It left my skin looking clear and soft, the best it had for most of the year. If you're curious about the serum, you can read my full review here.

Face Mist

2018 has to be the year that I fell in love with face mists. Before this year I was so unsure of them and really just thought they were over priced water. That was until I tried the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Face Mist. This completely changed the game for me. It is a hydrating mist that leaves your skin feeling hydrated and looking glowy. You can use it as a moisturiser, as a hydrator throughout your skincare routine or over make up. I keep it in my hand bag, particularly through winter to keep my skin looking and feeling hydrated.

I tried a number of different moisturisers throughout 2018. I have two favourites that I loved during the year. The first one was the Clinique Moisture Surge 72 Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator. It was definitely my most used moisturiser throughout the year, I think I finished three jars in total and still have two more in my drawer. I love it because it's a really lightweight moisturiser that melts into the skin and leaves you feeling hydrated, but not weighed down.

The other moisturiser that I loved was the Dr Dennis Ferulic and Retinol Anti-Ageing Moisturiser. I used so many samples of this before a friend of mine bought me a jar. It is a really beautiful moisturiser that uses retinol, but can be used morning and night thanks to the ferulic included inside. It helped with my skin texture massively, without making my skin feel sensitive, like other retinol products I have used. It is expensive but damn my skin loves it!

It was hard to narrow down to one favourite face mask for 2018, but if I have to choose just one it would be the Tatcha Violet-C Radiance Mask. I treated myself to this mask when I graduated from uni and I love it. I tend to reach for it when my skin is looking particularly good (ie my acne is not too bad) because it is perfect for brightening the skin and giving it a really nice luminous boost. It just works so well and I honestly cannot fault it at all.

My go-to lip scrub for 2018 (and probably every year before) is still the Frank Body Lip Scrub*. I just cannot fault it. It is easy to use and leaves my lips feeling so soft. I always reach for it when my lips are feeling dry and chapped, because it is the perfect instant fix!

As for lip balm, my favourite for 2018 would have to be the Fresh Sugar Caramel Hydrating Lip Balm. I went through two tubs of this in the space of probably two months because it is honestly amazing. It is hydrating and smells incredible. There is no state of dryness that this lip balm could not fix. I don't currently have a jar, but I really need to get myself one.

Starting with face scrubs, my go-to is definitely the Frank Creamy Face Scrub*. I don't think I have ever used a face scrub that I have loved as much as the Frank Body scrub. It is the perfect way to leave your face feeling soft and fresh, without being coarse or too harsh on the skin. I find that it really helps with my blemishes if I use it regularly as well.

As for body, the best in beauty award goes to another Frank Body scrub. The Original Coffee Scrub* is still one  my favourite body scrubs and it was nice to revisit it again in 2018. It is great for pre-tan, for when my eczema is really bad or just when I want to pamper myself. Yes, it's messy, but damn its good!

Body Wash

Much like cleansers, I don't tend to have favourite body washes, just using whatever happens to be in my beauty drawer. However, there is one body wash that I repurchased multiple times, not just because I loved it but also because Dave did. The Body Shop Adriatic Peony Bath and Shower Cream is a beautiful, creamy body wash that smells amazing. It is a thick shower cream, that melts into the skin easily, leaves the skin feeling hydrated and honestly smells like heaven. I love it.

Body Moisturiser

During 2018 I finally joined the Bum Bum band wagon and absolutely loved it. The Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is such a heavenly body moisturiser. It is thick and cream, but massages easily into the skin, leaving the body feeling soft and smelling like summer. I use this when tanning, or just whenever I want to moisturiser and I love it. I also have the Acai Power Body Cream, which is illuminating and lovely, and I have also just ordered the Coco Cabana Cream, which I am excited to try next.

It was definitely the year of skincare, but I have found some amazing skincare products that I have fallen in love with. I will be cutting back on my skincare reviews during 2019, opting for more of a minimalist skincare routine.

I would love to hear what you favourite skincare products were in 2018. Let me know in the comments below.
