High Performance Skincare: Sunday Riley

Sunday Riley is one of those high end, luxurious brands that I always lust over. They are pricey, unique products that are designed to target different skin concerns. Today I am going to be talking about the acne range, designed to reduce the appearance and occurrence of blemishes.

After seeing Zoella rave about the Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner I knew I had to have it. Since the toner was released Sunday Riley have created two more products aimed at targeting acne prone skin - the Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask and the UFO Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil

Founded by cosmetic chemist and brand founder Sunday Riley, she formulates powerful, targeted skin care designed for fast, visible results. Her expertly crafted, luxury treatments go to work quickly, harnessing the power of high-quality actives for both immediate and long-term payoff. Essentially they are hard working skincare products that include potent ingredients that work.

I recently picked up the Space Race Kit from Beautylish a few months ago. The kit included mini versions of all three products from the acne range. The range is designed to banish breakouts, cystic acne, blackheads, oiliness, and acne-related redness. Targeting both inflammatory and noninflammatory acne, plus acne-related redness and discoloration, with clinically proven ingredients like sulfur, niacinamide, and salicylic acid.

Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner

Targeted at shine and blemish-prone skin, this transformative cooling gel melts into a water toner as it is massaged into the skin. Formulated with bentonite clay to absorb excess oil and tighten pores; marshmallow and green tea to soothe redness; cucumber and witch hazel extracts to tone and antibacterial manuka, black cumin and magnolia bark extracts to balance the complexion and tackle breakouts.

I have been using this toner for a little while now. I got very excited when it came out at Mecca last year and I picked it up. I am now onto my second bottle because I love it. It is a very interesting toner, like nothing I have ever used before. It is a thick toner that can either be applied with your fingers or with a cotton pad. I use a cotton pad, massaging it in like I would a serum. It sets matte, but doesn't leave your skin feeling dry (this comes from someone with dry skin!)

After using it for a week I started to notice that blemishes were appearing less angry and were clearing up much quicker. After I finished the first bottle my skin looked less red and was feeling much calmer. I have now cut back to using it when I have had a breakout or to when my skin is particularly angry. I absolutely love it!

U.F.O Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil

With 1.5 percent salicylic acid, this fast-acting, quick-drying, medicated oil clears acne and blackhead-causing buildup and debris from congested pores for smoother, blemish-free skin. Tea tree oil and black cumin seed oil support clear skin, while hexylresorcinol and licorice naturally brighten the appearance of old acne discolorations for a more even-toned complexion.

I was so excited to try this face oil. I had been eyeing it off for months, but naturally it wasn't available to buy in Australia. When I saw it in the set I couldn't say no. While it was only a mini bottle it still lasted me just over a month. I was really excited by the formula, that there was actually an acne product that was an oil. For dry skin girls, acne products that don't just dry your skin out can be hard to come by. The oil is hydrating but soaks into the skin quickly so you are not left with too much of a residue on the skin.

As for how it works, I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't an instant fix, but by the end of the bottle my skin looked clearer, my blemishes were clearing up faster, were appearing less angry. The added bonus was that the oil kept my skin looking hydrated and glowy. While I can't say it is the best acne treatment I have ever used (I would still choose the Ultraceuticals Ultra Clear Treatment Lotion over this one), it would really well and I liked that it didn't dry my skin out.

Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask

Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask contains maximum levels of sulfur to penetrate pores to dry and clear up existing acne while preventing new blemishes from forming. It treats multiple forms of acne, including blocked, congested pores, inflammatory acne, hormonal acne, and acne rosacea. Four percent niacinamide promotes clear skin while boosting skin’s healthy-looking radiance. Zinc PCA and bentonite clay help to clear impurities, reduce excess oil, and soothe the appearance of surface redness, without over-drying. Highly potent tea tree oil, standardized for high levels of terpinen-4-ol, partnered with manuka oil, purify the skin for a smooth and clear complexion after each use.

You know I love my face masks so I was so excited to try this mask out. Being a mini tube, I only got three and a bit uses out of it. It is a fluorescent green foam like consistency. You can either apply it all over your face or as a spot treatment. After each use I was really happy with how my skin looked. My skin was left feeling very clean and not dry at all. Overnight my spots were looking less angry, and my blind spots started clearing up much faster. I would buy another tube just to use as a spot treatment for my blind spots. {Side story} My blind pimples have been SO big and SO angry and SOOO sore lately and I have been struggling to find anything that helps them, until this guy. I have been so impressed with it.

It's safe to say I have been quite impressed with this little kit and I will definitely be repurchasing them in the future. while they are on the pricey side, they do work well and I love that they don't dry the skin out in the process, despite having some powerful ingredients inside. The Treatment Oil would be the perfect treatment for winter, when skin can play up quite a bit. I would definitely recommend checking out the Space Race Kit if you have been wanting to try this range. It is about $80AU and the perfect size to try the products out and see how they go.
