Brush Cleaning Made Easy | The Brush Bar

'I love cleaning my make up brushes!' said no one ever... I don't know about you, but my least favourite beauty task is cleaning make up brushes. I put it off until my brushes are so gross that it really isn't right to be putting them on my face. Yes, I am a failure as a beauty blogger. I recently received a couple of products to make cleaning my brushes easy.

The Brush Bar is an innovative beauty company that creates tools designed to make your make up life easy. Founded by a father-daughter team based out of San Jose. In late 2014, they finally hunkered down and started The Brush Bar from a simple desire to tackle one of the biggest frustrations of makeup (or so believes the junior AISHQ-Dr. Wu, a clinically serious beauty junkie from age 7) - brush maintenance. From this they created two products to help with brush cleaning AND drying.

Step one is The Brush Board*. Made from a hard material it has six different surfaces designed to give your brushes a deep clean without damaging them. All you have to do is squeeze a little bit of brush soap onto your desired surface, swirl your brush around until clean and then rinse.

The six surfaces:

1. Cylinders for a gentle clean.
2. Pyramids, four edges and a point for the deepest clean.
3. Cones for deep cleaning. They also double as a bristle comb to separate bristles for quick drying.
4. Triangular Cylinder for a medium scrub.
5. Straight Grooves act as a dual purpose scrubber and scraper.
6. Wave Grooves which are a waved very of the straight grooves
I tend to use the cylinders for my smaller or fluffier brushes. For the brushes that I use for cream based products (foundation, concealers etc.) I go for the pyramids and cones as they get in deeper and actually gets rid of the foundation that is caught deep in the bristles. To finish, I swirl them on either the straight or waves grooves, which I find helps to make sure I've got all the product out before drying them.

I have never used any of those cleaning sponges or anything, with the little grooves, but I am really enjoying this. I love how easy it is to use, with a little hole one one end to help hold it. It also means I don't get my hands wet or dirty while cleaning my brushes. It makes it seem less messy and makes it so much quicker to clean your brushes as well.

The next challenge is drying your brushes. I have seen so many DIY ways to dry your brushes, from coat hangers to hanging them on the clothes line. I, personally, just lay them on the bench and let them dry. I know, another failure as a beauty should hang them so the water doesn't get into the glue and ruin your brushes, but I am lazy.... So I guess this other bar came at the perfect time. The Brush Bar* is a super unique bar that makes drying your brushes easy. Similar to The Brush Board it a rectangular board with a matte black finish. It opens up to show ten prongs that hold your brushes after you wash them. You simply open it up (note: it only opens up 90 degrees) and then you flip the prongs out and then shut the bar so just the prongs are hanging out. I place mine on the edge of my vanity in the bathroom, then simply place my brushes in one of the prongs and leave them to dry. It's a serious game changer.

I didn't know I needed either of these in my life, but they have honestly made it so easy to clean my brushes that I think I can safely say, I will be cleaning my brushes more regularly from now on. The best thing is that they both come with a little velvet bag to carry them in, which means you can take them with you when you are travelling, and can store them easily when you aren't using them. If you're looking for a way to make cleaning your make up brushes easy, I can't recommend checking these two from The Brush Bar enough!
