Red Carpet Waves {AD}

Walking down the red carpet, cameras flashing, people cheering. Your hair looks AMAZING. The stylist absolutely nailed it. It’s silky and the waves are perfection. Ever wish you could create hair just like that at home? Even if you don’t have a red carpet to walk on...

I’m hear to tell you can achieve that hair at home and it’s not as hard as you think. Ok ok, I’ll admit, it might take some practice, but I promise it’s worth it! Here’s what you’ll need: GHD Curve Creative Curl Wand Gift Set*. Literally all you will need.

The GHD Curve Creative Curl Wand Gift Set (available to purchase from My Haircare and Beauty right now), contains the GHD Curve Creative Curl Wand, the Oval Dressing Brush and a heat mat, and is the perfect tool for creating the perfect curls or waves. It was a tool I never thought I needed, but has absolutely changed the game for me when it comes to styling my hair. The Curve wand has a 23 - 28mm tapered barrel, which is perfect for creating full and bouncy curls, natural texture or silky waves. It works at an optimum styling temperature of 185˚, meaning you can curl without having to worry about heat damage. It automatically turns off after 30 minutes as well. On top of all of that, it honestly feels like the lightest styler I’ve ever owned and this is a game changer when it comes to styling in my opinion.

Now let’s talk curls. I won’t lie, the first time I used this styler, I was concerned that I had burnt some of the tips of my fingers off (word of warning, be smart and use the glove that comes in the box...), but by the second use I was fine. To style my hair, I simply sectioned it off, so I was only working with a small section of hair at a time. Then I have my hair a good brush (with the Oval Dressing Brush) before taking a small section of hair to curl. I simply point the wand down to the ground and twist my hair gently around the wand, holding it in place for about 30 seconds. To help the curl hold, after I’ve taken it off I twist it back into the shape it was on while on the wand until its cooled. Then I simply repeat this for the rest of my head. It sounds simple (and it is once you get the hang of it), but head over to my Instagram if you want to see it all in action as well, I’ve popped a couple of videos up to help all you visual learners!

So that gives you the curls, usually quite tight and ringlet-like, which is not everyone’s cup of tea, I know. If you want those soft, silky waves, the next step is the best part. First thing you need to do - let your hair cool. Don’t do anything to it while it’s still hot or even warm. By letting your hair cool completely, it will allow the style to hold better when we get to the next step. You’ve got a couple of options for what you can do next. If you want to keep the curls looking a bit more structured, but a little bit softer, then a wide tooth comb is your best friend. Simply comb through the curls to loosen them up slightly. If you want softer and silkier waves, that is where the Oval Dressing Brush is the BOMB. Again, like if you were to comb it, just go through all your hair and brush it out. Don’t be afraid, it’s not going to make the curls drop, but will just soften them up, while also leaving your hair looking super soft and silky. However, if you are worried you can give your hair a spray with either the GHD Curl Hold Spray or the GHD Final Fix Hairspray before brushing or combing. I typically give my hair a spray with either one after I’ve finished styling to help prolong the look. Again, head over to my Instagram if you want some visuals on this in action.

What you will be left with after the final step is the softest waves, that look ready for the red carpet (or for a day in the office). If I’m styling like this, the next day I will randomly pop through a few more curls with the wand and then brush out again to freshen the look.

I know I never thought I’d need a curling wand, but honestly I’m converted. It’s made getting different styles of waves so much easier. If you are interested in grabbing the GHD Curve Creative Curl Wand Set* or any of the other GHD stylers, make sure you head over the My Haircare and Beauty. They have such a comprehensive collection of GHD products as well as a variety of other amazing hair, skin and make up bits.
