Current Skincare Routine : Morning Edition

I recently asked on my Instagram what you wanted to see on my blog and got almost radio silence (thanks guys...), but the one post that WAS requested was for my current skincare routine, so here is part one - my morning edition.

My routine tends to stay pretty consistent, I will change out one or two products here or there as things run out or as my skin needs change. For a morning routine, I try to keep things pretty simple and quick (so I can get those extra couple of minutes sleep). Now, my skin is normal - sometimes on the dry side - but is acne prone. I generally go for products that help manage my acne, while also trying to make my skin glowing (improving texture, and giving that natural lit from within glow).

Step 1: Cleanse : Pixi Vitamin-C Juice Cleanser*

Truth be told, I don’t really cleanse in the morning...It’s probably wrong, I know, but I also don’t feel like I do enough to warrant a full cleanse in the morning. I typically just micellar it (if anything...). My micellar-type cleanse of choice at the moment is the Pixi Beauty Vitamin-C Juice Cleanser. I can’t say it’s wowing me, but it works well to quickly cleanse my skin. It has a pump, so I just put a little on a cotton pad in the morning and away I go.

Step 2 : Tone : Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner*

Toner is an important step for me. It helps with my texture and often my blemishes. I have been using this for a little while, and much like the Pixi, it’s not really wowing me. It does the job and my skin texture is fairly nice at the moment which I would attribute to this. I wouldn’t classify it as a strong toner (so if you’re after something that isn’t super intense, I would highly recommend this. If you are used to something strong, then this might not be for you). I would say it’s a good morning toner, as it’s fairly gentle (but you still should be wearing SPF people!!)

Step 3 : Serum : Synergie Skin Ultimate B*

I am all about having a good quality serum, because it is what really makes the difference in my skin (I tend to use a cheaper/less fancy moisturiser in exchange for a better quality serum). Containing 13% of the active ingredient, Vitamin B3 (niacinamide), this formula is designed to rejuvenate the skin, enhancing skin clarity and luminosity. Another niacinamide product, after I was just saying it wasn’t the best ingredient for me, I know. It’s early days, but so far I am enjoying this serum. I’ve used it previously and noticed results in my skin then, so hoping for similar things! It’s great for boosting luminosity and helping even out skin texture.

Step 3 part b : Booster : Paula’s Choice C25 Super Booster*

Alongside my Vitamin B serum, I often mix in the C25 Booster, a 25% concentrate of Vitamin C. It’s the thickest Vitamin C I have ever tried, but I don’t mind it so far. Again, I haven’t been using it for the longest time, but I would say that it has made a difference in my skin - particularly brightness. Could be onto a winner (like almost all Paula’s Choice products...)

Step 4 : Eye Cream : Origins Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream

I only have a mini one of these, but it has lasted me so long. I have used a few samples of this and have always loved it. It’s designed to brighten the under eye area, and I am loving it still. One day I will buy a full size of this stuff, but I’ll wait for the time when I really need an eye cream (which, luckily, is not yet).

Step 5 : SPF : La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Fluid SPF 50+

ALWAYS APPLY SPF PEOPLE! My SPF of choice is currently the LRP and really enjoying it. It is lightweight and doesn’t feel like sunscreen at all, just like a slightly oilier moisturiser. The texture actually reminds me a lot of the Ultra Violette Queen Screen (which I didn’t really enjoy), but much cheaper. If you hate the feeling of traditional sunscreen, but still like a little bit of glow, I would highly recommend this.

Step 6 : Moisturiser : Good Molecules Silicone-Free Priming Moisturiser*

The last step before make up is always the Good Molecules moisturiser. It is so close to being empty, but I’m not ready for it to run out. It is the bomb. Lightweight, but creates a lovely smooth base that is perfect under make up. I wouldn’t say that it’s anything flash, but I don’t feel like I need a primer after using it (so cuts out one less step), plus it’s designed to not break out the skin, another win.

Optional Extra : Lip Balm : Medik8 Mutiny Lip Balm*

I will typically put a lip balm on before putting my skincare on. I have the driest lips all the time I swear, so I can’t not live without a good lip balm. My current lip balm of choice is the Mutiny Lip Balm from Medik8. At first, I didn’t love it, but it has grown on me. It’s not an immediately hydrating lip balm - it’s more like a lip serum that, over time, increases the hydration over time. IT’s a very interesting formula, but it is really growing on me!

Then it’s on to make up! That’s it for my skincare routine in the morning though. It might seem like a lot, but it’s pretty quick and typically only takes me a few minutes, but it’s effective in rehydrating and preparing my skin for make up.
