May Masking Madness

It's been a long time since I have done a face mask review, which is shocking considering I like to call myself the 'Face Mask Queen'. Early in May I discovered that I am a bit of a sheet mask is not healthy how many sheet masks I had in my box... So I decided to do something about it.

Throughout the month of May, I left my sheet mask box out and tried to pick one or two up a week to use. I also instilled the help from my self confessed Face Mask King to also help out with some reviews (thanks Dave!) With each mask I tried to review how the mask fit and sat on my face, how the serum felt in my skin and how quickly it absorbed, and (for some) how my skin felt for the few days after using them.

Pixi Beauty : GLOW Glycolic Boost*

Instant brightening and hydrating effect sheet mask. Serum concentrate of glycolic acid brightens and herbal extracts help to improve and maintain skin health, promoting more luminous skin.

This mask comes in a box of three sheet masks and I used this at least twice throughout the month of May and really enjoyed it. I was really happy with how well it sat and fit on the face. It is a tissue mask that is light and fits easily on the face. I didn't find there were sections of the mask hanging of my face and I could comfortable fit my mouth and nose through the holes (which can be hard to do in some masks).

There was a really good amount of serum inside the packet as well. There wasn't so much that you were overwhelmed, but you were still able to massage a little extra in after using the mask. It left my skin feeling soft and hydrated, and looking radiant and fresh. The next morning my skin still looked glowy and clear. It is definitely the perfect mask for pre or post event! I don't think this mask is available from any of Pixi's Australian distributors yet, but hopefully soon because it's good!

Kiehls : Instant Renewal Concentrate Mask

Treat your skin to intense, dewy hydration with our oil-infused sheet mask. Formulated with cold-pressed Amazonian Oils, this hydrating sheet mask helps smooth and soften skin. A set of 4 treatments come in one pack.

It is a two piece mask (which I love because these typically fit my face much better) however, the gel textures makes it a bit slidey. It slides and moves easily if you move your mouth or even really move in the slightest, so it's the type of mask where you are really forced to have a solid relax sesh without moving. The nose part doesn’t do much, it just flaps about in the wind, gets sucked up your nose when you breath and tickles the hell out of your nose.

Despite all that I do like that it leaves my skin feeling hydrated and refreshed, I just don't think the material does a whole lot for it. If it was in a tissue form or something a little bit less thick it might be a little more effective.

Garnier : Pure Active  Black Algae Pure Charcoal Tissue Mask*

This new generation of tissue mask inspired from Asia offers a double purifying and hydrating efficacy that clears skin without drying it out. Its truly innovative black tissue is infused with charcoal, a centuries-old beauty remedy known for its excellent absorbing properties and ability to draw out stubborn dirt, oil and impurities from the skin.

This mask was tested out by my testing partner and he was pretty honest about this one. I don’t rate it all: under the nose bit is annoying. Dries out within 30 seconds and isn’t doing anything for anyone *sassy click*. It was hydrating and left my skin feeling smooth, but was unremarkable. Vanilla. Beige. By no means the best face mask I’ve ever used.

Oh K! : Glowing Skin Gold Dust Hydrogel Mask*

This hydrogel face mask contains gold dust elements to rejuvenate the skin and leave you with a goddess glow. This face shaped sheet mask is made of gel, super intensive with high absorbency. 90% of the Hydrogel mask is made up of the mask essence itself so it absorbs easily into skin.

I have to say, this mask surprised me! It is another two piece mask, which fit and sat on the face really well. The only part I didn't love was where it has been folded on the chin, I couldn't quite get that to sit flat, but it wasn't too much of a problem once it was on. It feels hydrating and refreshing on the skin. Wasn’t left with a huge amount of serum on the skin when I removed the mask, which I was hoping means that it soaked in nicely. My skin felt a little tacky afterwards, but looked fresh.

You will be happy to know that it meant exactly that. The next day my skin looked glowy, hydrated and so fresh. I was shocked! The material and design reminded me a lot of the Kiehls one, but at less than $10 for this mask, it wowed me so much more! This is definitely a winner for me!

Skin Republic : Youthfoil

Skin Republic Youthfoil Foil Face Mask is a sheet face mask that will intensely hydrate and nourish the skin, reduce signs of ageing and protect against environmental pollutants. The formula is enriched with collagen, elastin, as well as vitamins C and E to leave the complexion luminous. The foil coating prevents the formula from evaporating and speeds up the delivery process to just ten minutes.

I was really surprised by this one. To start off, it was a two piece mask (win) which fit my face perfectly. When I pulled it out, it was really interesting because the way it was folded seemed to mean that the serum was mostly on the side of the mask that you put on your face, meaning that you are getting as much serum on your face as possible. The other side of the mask felt almost dry. What was interesting was that there was a lot of serum left on my face after I removed it. It definitely didn't feel like much had soaked into my skin. Anyway, I simply massaged it in my skin. It felt a little tacky afterwards, but by bed time, my skin felt hydrated and plump. The next morning my skin felt great and looked really bright. Was definitely a great pick me up!

Rubi : H20 Glow*

Aloe Vera leaf juice, lotus extract and bamboo water deliver hydration to leave skin feeling refreshed and looking dewy.

Another one that Dave tested out, and to be honest another dud. Sorry Dave! Somehow he keeps picking the dodgy ones. Let's start with the positives though. It had LOTS of serum, when you remove it from the packet it is pretty much dripping with serum (a bit of a mess to be honest). It applied easily, however the fit wasn't great. It was quite a large mask, even for Dave's face (so who knows how large it would've been on mine). In saying that, it tucked up really nicely around the chin, almost like it had a little chin holder. Overall, the fit made it a really uncomfortable experience, despite it leaving Dave's face feeling hydrated and soft afterwards.

Tatcha : Luminous Dewy Skin Mask

Wake up to beautifully plump, luminous skin bursting with long-lasting hydration. A skin-fitting sheet mask that deliver a dose of moisture-replenishing botanical oils and extracts to deeply hydrate and boost luminosity. Each delicate, ultra-fine microfibre sheet mask is drenched in 20 ml of serum for maximum absorption and efficacy. Enriched with rice germ oil and a concentrated blend of botanical oils and extracts to nourish and hydrate from within for an instantly plump, supple and dewy glow. Also infused with a blend of Japanese anti-ageing superfoods by way of a fermentation of green tea, rice and algae to support skin health.

Look, I am not going to beat around the bush on this one. This mask is probably my all time favourite sheet mask. I have never used a sheet mask that gives such instant results, like this one. It is a silk mask, that feels so luxurious to use and apply to the skin. It has SO much serum inside, enough that I can massage extra in over my face and neck afterwards to keep the effect lasting forever. The mask fits really well on my face, though if I was to be picky, the nose part is not very long and doesn't cover my whole nose, but I can manage with that. It leaves my skin feeling AMAZING. Hydarted, glowy and refreshed. It even gives my skin a glowy and luminous look that lasts for a couple of days. It's perfect pre event or post event or whenever your skin is feeling a bit flat and dull. I could not recommend this mask enough.

I did hope to try a couple more sheet masks through May, except the cold weather got to my skin more than I expected. If you want to see more sheet mask reviews like this, let me know!
