Finding the Right Mascara

I hate trying new mascaras. Don't get me wrong, it's exciting, but also....I hate it. I am so picky when it comes to mascaras that trying new ones is just a little scary because who knows if they are going to be any good! But guys I bit the bullet. I did it for you. I tried THREE new mascaras recently. Let's have a chat about them.

When I say I am picky about mascaras, it's because a lot of them don't really work for me. 90% off mascaras smudge under my eyes. I don't know what it is... whether it's the shape of my eyes, or maybe I just have sweaty under eyes, but SO many of them smudge for me. It only takes one use for me to decide whether I will use it again or not. Only one use for it to convince me whether it's worth it or not.

So now that I've talked about how much pressure I put on mascaras (oops!) let's chat about the three that I have been testing out. INIKA Organic recently released three new mascaras to their make up collection - the Curvy Lash*, the Bold Lash* and The Mascara*. All three, like all of INIKA's products are vegan and cruelty free.

For those of you who haven't heard of INIKA before, they are a 100% Australian owned company that is a pioneer in Certified Organic ingredients and healthy beauty. They were born out of a need to detox. Conscious consumers were already removing harmful chemicals from their homes and diet, replacing them with wholesome, pure and natural alternatives. When it came to makeup, there wasn’t a healthy option. Their beauty products are now loved all over the world.

I put the three new mascaras to the test over the last couple of weeks to see what I thought. I can't say I've used many organic mascaras, and honestly the ones I have, haven't been that great. Each mascara targets a different desire or need with you lashes, meaning that you can pick the one that is going to make your lashes look exactly how they want.

I am going to start by saying that all three passed the one use test. No smudging insight! (Except for when I bawled my eyes at the end of Parenthood, but I don't think any mascara would've made it through that test).

Now first up, here is my eyes with no mascara on to give you something to compare to:

The Mascara*

Protect and nourish lashes with this Cranberry water based mascara, complete with a tapered wand to gain coverage of the inner and outer part of the lash line. Rich in Magnolia Bark extract, Vitamin E and Sunflower Oil to give a glossy appearance to lashes, with no clumping or flaking. Ideal for the most sensitive eyes and for those searching for a mascara that is truly rich in nourishing certified organic ingredients, The Mascara really is...The One!

The first mascara I tried was 'The Mascara'. The Mascara has what I would call a fairly common wand, thin with a tapered tip. To look at, it wasn't anything exciting. The formula itself is quite dry, I found it the driest of the three, however it applied easily. It did take a little bit to build up to the length that I wanted. It gave my lashes a good volume, but was a bit of effort to get the length. So if volume is what you are looking for, I would recommend this one.

Did I like how my lashes looked? Yes. Was it my favourite? No. I liked this mascara, though I found my lashes clumped a bit and I am not a big fan of clumpy lashes.

The Mascara comes in both black and brown shades.

Curvy Lash Vegan Mascara*

Achieve an intense curl and lifted lashes with this enriched, natural vegan mascara. With a plant-based, smudge-proof formula and a purpose-built curling wand, this mascara coats every lash evenly whilst lifting it, from base to tip. Enriched with Certified Organic Carnauba Wax and Vitamin E, this curling mascara will flare out lashes and hold them in place with a deep dose of pigment.

The next one I tested out was the Curvy Lash mascara. Now, bear in mind that I didn't curl my lashes at all while testing these out, because I wanted to see how they would work on my completely natural lashes. So naturally, I was excited to see how the Curvy Lash mascara would work. Safe to say I was a fan. As you can see from the photo, my lashes were LONG and did have a nice, natural curl to them. But I was sooo happy with the fluttery, natural length they had to them. If volume is what you are after, then this one probably won't be your favourite, but if length is what you need, then OMG YOU NEED!

The Curvy Lash Mascara comes in both black and blue shades.

Bold Lash Vegan Mascara*

Dramatically amplify lashes with this buildable, deeply pigmented formula. The Bold Lash Mascara glides on smoothly, instantly amplifying lashes by coating every single one with rich, glossy black pigment. Lashes appear thicker-than-ever and dramatic in a single swipe. Achieve a voluminous appearance, whilst protecting lashes with the benefits of Certified Organic Magnolia Bark, Vitamin E and Sunflower Oil.

Truth be told, I probably saved the best of the three for last. I didn't know what I expected when I started trying this one but OH MY LORD IT IS AMAZING! Two swipes and my lashes were long, like falsie length long. Again, I wouldn't say that this one gave me a lot of volume, but it balances it out with the length, because seriously - look at how fluffy and long they look!! This is by far my favourite of the three of them. I just love how good they look.

The Bold Lash comes in both black and brown shades.

I have been really impressed with the new mascaras INIKA has released. There is definitely something for everyone, from the more natural (The Mascara), to the bold, falsie type look (Bold Lash) and everything in between (Curvy Lash). The Bold Lash and The Mascara are $49 each, while the Curvy Lash is $45. It does make them pricey mascaras, but they are honestly so worth it. The ingredients also help to care for your lashes while making them look amazing. There is no point having an amazing mascara that is just going to end up ruining your lashes.
