Future Proof Your Face

Fact: UV rays are the single biggest cause of premature ageing. That’s right friends. Not your genes, not pollution, and not even that cheeky menthol ciggie you sometimes sneak on a Friday night (no judgement).

So how about we start prioritising that all-important UV-deflecting skincare step. For wrinkles sake! (Thanks to Ultra Violette for that little intro, I definitely couldn't have written that better, so I borrowed it from their website). But it's true. UV rays will age your skin faster than anything else. Not only that, but it can lead to skin cancer as well. Basically there is nothing good from long term sun adventures. This is why it is so important to include SPF in your routine on a daily basis. If you are using AHA's in your skincare routine, your skin can become more sensitive to the sun, so it is even more important to be using SPF as well.

Founders Ava Matthews and Bec Jefferd are adept in all things SPF, wearing it, creating it and marketing it respectively for some of the country’s biggest beauty retailers. Ultra Violette is the brain child of these two industry alumni, in the hope that they could create sunscreen that spoke to them.

“We wanted to design a wardrobe of facial sunscreen that looked good, felt nice to wear, and didn’t bore us to tears. Of all the anti-ageing products available on the market, sunscreen is the single most important one. It’s about future-proofing your face from the daily toll of UV rays, and having a suite of products that can be adapted for every occasion to do this."

This is where Ultra Violette came from. The sunscreen is designed to slip into your routine. After moisturiser, before foundation. Australian made and slayed, they won’t pill, ball or shine. And they come with a bonus dose of powerful native antioxidants that fight free radical damage.

If you have been on Instagram recently, I am sure that you have seen the gorgeous Queen Screen popping up everywhere. I was lucky enough to be sent one to test out recently and I have had so many questions about it, that I couldn't not share about it.

You need Queen Screen if you: a) like the feeling of NOT wearing SPF b) like an invisible, lightweight yet non-greasy texture c) like a lil' bit of hydration and a lot of glow d) are a QUEEN with sensitive/normal/ slightly dry skin.
Queen Screen is a SPF Serum and the matriarch of the Ultra Violette family. It is a broad spectrum SPF in the body of an anti-ageing serum that will make your skin glow. It is an oil-free formula packed with native antioxidants. It will provide protection from the whole solar spectrum of environmental damage including UVA + UVB, infrared, blue, visible light, and pollution. However, it contains no parabens and oxybenzone, cruelty, and any trace of a sticky white grease. What you will find inside is Australian Kakadu Plum, the world’s richest source of Vitamin C, and Dragosine Plus,  a powerful anti-ageing active which offers comprehensive protection against sun damage, beyond the traditional sun filters.

I have been using Queen Screen for the last three weeks and it's safe to say that I am absolutely OBSESSED. I didn't think I could ever been in love with a facial sunscreen as much as I am in love with this one.

First things first, it is an SPF50+ sunscreen and in Australia you don't really want anything less. Being a sunscreen made in Australia, it is designed for Australian skin and sun conditions. Australia is the toughest place in the world to get a sunscreen (or skinscreen) passed. This baby had to work  extra hard to pass those tests, so you know it's good.

It comes in a dropper packaging, a style of packaging I don't always love, as I can find it a bit hit and miss, however for this product it works really well. I have been using it every morning after moisturising, before applying my foundation. I let my moisturiser sink in for a minute or two, then take about 3 or 4 drops of the serum sunscreen and massage it into my face and neck (I do occasionally need  a few extra drops to get my neck, but not a huge amount). Unlike other SPF's that I have used on my face, a little bit goes a long way with this one. It is a really lightweight formula - very serum like! It is almost runny. The complete opposite of what you would typically expect with a sunscreen. After massaging it into the skin your skin will look a little shiny, but doesn't feel greasy and you will be left with NO white cast. Basically, it doesn't feel or act like sunscreen. It just feels like a slighlty oilier moisturiser. It is really hydrating on the skin and will give you a little bit of an extra glow.

As for make up over the top - my challenge with SPF's is that so many of them either end up pilling, or they reduce the longevity of my foundations. There is just something in them that makes the foundation wear off faster. This SPF has broken this streak. I have had NO issues with foundation over the top of it. Whether I wear primer or not, this SPF lasts really well. Yes, your skin will look a little bit more glowy and my trusty EsteƩ Lauder Double Wear Foundation is less matte than usual, but there isn't anything a little bit powder can't hide if I don't want to look glowy and healthy. Also, the foundation still lasts like a dream.

This sunscreen has taken the place as my favourite facial SPF ever. It is everything I have ever wanted in a sunscreen. It is hydrating, but lightweight. It helps protect the skin without affecting the wear of foundation. And it also smells lovely. I don't know how this would suit oily skin, due to the illuminating finish of it, however for all you dry skin or normal skin people out there, this is a winner. Also for sensitive skin - I have had absolutely no issues with sensitivity while wearing this, even when using high intensity exfoliators.

If the serum doesn't sound like the one for you, they also have the Clean Screen SPF, a mattifying mineral sunscreen, and Supreme Screen SPF, a hydrating facial sunscreen. Both of which are also SPF 50+. Then for your lips, they also have a High SPF Lip Balm with SPF30+. Basically there is something for everyone. I don't think I will be using  another facial sunscreen again. I have never been this excited or happy about a sunscreen. Thank you Ultra Violette for letting me try it out!
