The Foundation Files : Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation

It has been a while since I have added to the Foundation Files, but I thought I'd kick off the year with a foundation review! We are taking it back to the affordable foundations and reviewing the Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation*.

For those of you who haven't read one of my Foundation Files before, in each review I will give you photos of my skin before application, immediately after application and at the end of the day. I will talk about how I prep my skin before applying, as well as the method that I use to apply. I will also talk about the coverage and finish, as well as how well I think it wears throughout the day. Now as for my skin type (which will impact what I think of foundations) I have dry/normal skin. I do have blemish and pigmentation concerns, particularly in my T-Zone. Without further adieu, let's get into it!

So let's get into it! The Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation is the latest addition to the Maybelline foundation range. It is a reformulated version of the classic Dream Liquid Mousse, which I have never tried, but I know others who have and loved it. It is a foundation with a hydrating serum and hyaluronic acid designed to give your skin 12 hour moisture and a flawless, radiant finish. It is designed for dry skin (yay for me!). It is an oil free formula that claims to be a full, lightweight coverage. It has also been tested under dermatological control so that it is suitable for sensitive skin. There are 10 shades in the range, still quite a small range, and retails for $23.95.

I won't lie, I was a bit hesitant to try this foundation. I haven't used a Maybelline foundation in a long time because I had quite a serious reaction to one growing up, so I kind of steered clear of them for a while for fear of another reaction. But I wanted to give this one a go, because I have heard quite a few people raving about it.

I prepped my skin in the same way that I usually would and applied the Napoleon Pre-Foundation Skin Primer* to finish my skin preparation. To apply the foundation I applied it to my face with my fingers, before buffing in with a foundation brush. The texture is quite a thick, moussey texture, but I was quite impressed with how easily it blended into the skin. It felt really light once applied and after one application it was a comfortable medium coverage. I applied a little bit more into my problem areas and was able to build it up nicely. I was expecting it to be a lighter coverage than it was, so I was really happy with how it ended up looking flawless. It was a natural finish - not super glowy, but my skin definitely felt hydrated and my dry patches showed no sign of dryness.

As for longevity, I was actually really surprised with how well it lasted as well. While I have been wearing this foundation on more casual days, it has been very warm and humid and the foundation still lasts really well. There was noticeable wear around my chin and on my forehead, but this is common with all foundations I wear. It was a little glowier by the end of the day, but I wouldn't have said it looked oily - just a lovely, luminous glow.

I have to say, I have actually been really impressed by this foundation. The coverage and finish is really lovely, and actually reminds me a little bit of a thicker version of the Clinique Even Better Glow. It lasts really well and the fact that it helps keep my skin looking and feeling hydrated is an added bonus. I think this will actually be a great winter foundation, when my skin is feeling particularly dry and uncomfortable.

Have you tried the Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation? I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Let me know in the comments below! xx
