POP CBR | The Canberra Local Makers Hub

If there is one thing I love, it is being able to shop small, local makers. I am a big believer in shopping local where ever I am and Canberra has a wide array of amazing makers - from ceramics, to chocolates and gin. You can now shop all of these in one place.

Pop CBR is a FANTASTIC little store that opened up in Acton over the Christmas period with different items from all sorts of makers from the Canberra region. They were meant to close on the 24th of December, but we are lucky enough that they have reopened their doors in 2019! They have big plans to become a permanent feature of the Canberra community, so make sure you get in and show your support while you still can!

Pop CBR is the brain child of Mikhaila Pennell of Tea Garden Co, Finn McGrath of Waypoint Tea Co and Gabe Trew of Crush Skincare Co, three amazing local makers themselves. Mikhaila had been wanting a physical space to stock the full range of her teas for the Christmas period, but also wanted a place where Canberran's could buy other things as well. She wanted to showcase all that Canberra has to offer.

I was lucky enough to check the store out at the end of last year and it was wonderful - exactly what Canberra needs, whether it's for gift purposes or for simply decking out the house with plants, decor and art.  There are so many beautiful makers inside, including laser cut jewellery from LLL Designs, vodka and gin from The Canberra Distillery, cider from Three Sons Cider, illustrations from Paris Does Art, chocolate from Jasper and Myrtle and Enigma, plant hangers from Leaves and Fibres, papercraft from ALTA Papercraft, everlasting baubles, wreaths and bouquets from Saint Valentine, chocolate and caramel sauces from Lavender and Lace, soft furnishings from Tango and James, soaps from Base Soaps, infused honey from Honey and Bee, candles from and Little Flame Co, biltong from Barbell Biltong, baked goods from The Sicilian Biscuit Company and boutique beer and wine from local breweries and wineries. As you may have guessed, tea from Waypoint Tea Co and Tea Garden Co and body scrubs from Crush Skincare Co round out a very impressive list of locals (shout out to Her Canberra for this list!).

I haven't been back to check out the store since it reopened this year, however they have added even MORE into the space, including art and ceramics from Brauton Heathwilliams, candles from Song of Oya and planner stickers from Doodle Do Stickers, among other brands and new items from the brands already available in store.

It really is an amazing little place, where you cannot help but feel at home. I picked up a number of items for Christmas gifts and for my home as well including plenty of Enigma chocolate and Tea Garden Co tea (because I cannot live without If Rudolph Was A Tea). I also loved that I could pick up some art for decent prices from amazing artists in Canberra and know that I am supporting them rather than a big company that sells their work.I would recommend picking up some calendars, to do lists and meal plans from ATP Creative Design to help you get all organised for 2019.

If you are looking for a place to basically get EVERYTHING you didn't know you needed.  Make sure you head in and check it out while you still can. And while you're there, stop and have a chat with Mikahila, Finn and Gabe about the weather (it's bloody hot hey?!) as well, they are some of the loveliest people you could meet.

Where: 2 Phillip Law Street (on the corner of Edinburgh Avenue), NewActon
When: Until the end of January 2019 (and hopefully beyond if you get in and show your support!!!)
