Winter Must Have's: Moisturisers

As you might remember from yesterday's post, we are talking all things winter skincare this week. If you missed it, make sure you go back and read about my top serum and face oil picks for winter! Today I will be sharing my top moisturiser picks this winter.

Every day this week I will be sharing my must haves for each part of my skincare routine. They are products that I trust and will be using throughout the colder months. Today's post is all about my top moisturiser picks for winter.

Now, bear in mind that I have drier skin and through winter my skin gets quite temperamental while it is cold. I go for hydrating products designed to give my skin that boost to stop it from being dry, irritated and unhappy. While I have tried to include a variety of products in each of these posts, some may be less suited to oilier skin types than others.

I am very picky when it comes to moisturisers, particularly through winter when my skin can get dry quite quickly. Now, *touch wood*, my skin has been pretty happy this winter and I am contributing a lot of that to my moisturisers.

Peter Thomas Roth | Hungarian Thermal Water Mineral-Rich Moisturiser

A moisturiser that harnesses the power of Hungarian thermal water, nine botanicals, and a triple lipid complex to help nourish and restore skin’s appearance. This fountain-of-youth moisturiser helps reduce the look of fine lines, wrinkles, dullness, uneven skin tone and texture.

This is a new moisturiser in my bank this year, but I have very quickly fallen in love with it. It is a lightweight, creamy gel formula that melts into the skin quickly, but leaves your skin feeling hydrated, soft and looking glowy. I have been using this as my day time moisturiser before applying make up and it is the perfect final skincare step. It preps your skin really well for make up and make up lasts really well over the top. While I did not expect the formula to work so well for my drier skin type, I have been really surprised by how well it hydrates my skin, without it feeling heavy or thick. It is a new favourite of mine and one I will be keeping around for a while!

Arbonne | RE9 Hydrating Dew Cream*

Refreshing like early morning dew. Soak your skin in airy hydration with this unique cream-to-gel formula that moisturizes the lipid barrier, with none of the shine and all of the softness. That’s thanks to lentil seed extract, which helps mattify skin, and apple fruit extract, which helps immediately increase skin hydration protecting it from dryness.

Another newbie for me that I have been really enjoying. This is a lovely morning time moisturiser that goes on light and doesn't leave an oily or sticky residue on the skin, rather leaving the skin looking and feeling natural (think natural matte). Again, it's the perfect pre-make up moisturiser that preps the skin well and keeps making lasting well as well.

Kiehl's | Skin Rescuer

A highly efficacious formula that reduces the visible signs of stress on skin.Addresses both the short-term visible signs and long term premature aging effect that stress can have on skin. Clinical results showed that 100% of those tested showed a significant improvement in overall skin quality, dryness and blotchiness. The formula with Rosa Gallica Botanical Extract helps minimize skin's visible response to stress. Mannose, a barrier protecting rare sugar, shields and helps maintain skin to promote recovery.

A friend recently gave this to me and it has been a life saver. It is a light weight moisturiser that is designed to not only hydrate skin, but also calm irritation and reduce redness. When I got given it my skin was a bit angry and upset and this calmed it almost instantly. By the next day any redness from the irritation had dramatically decreased and my skin was feeling and looking happier. It is perfect for sensitive skin or skin that is easily irritated, particularly in the cooler months. I cannot recommend this enough if you struggle with keeping your skin calm and happy through the cooler months (or all year round).

Aspect Dr. | Resveratol Moisturising Cream*

Hydrate and Protect. Aspect Dr Resveratrol Moisturising Cream contains pure grape skin extracts and peptides to nourish the skin and restore moisture content. Packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients to hydrate and protect the skin.

Another moisturiser that is perfect for those that are easily irritated. If you have dry and irritated skin, then this product is for you. While it is on the pricier side, it is honestly a life saver when it comes to irritated and angry skin. It is a thick, creamy consistency that does have a slightly oily consistency, but is extremely hydrating on the skin. I have been using this moisturiser whenever my skin is feeling particularly dry, flat or irritated. It hydrates my skin instantly. Because it does have a slight residue, I much prefer using it at night, but it works well in the morning as well. It is one of those moisturisers that will keep your skin hydrated 24/7 no matter what!

Bobbi Brown | Vitamin Enriched Face Base*

Prep the skin and create a smooth, hydrated base with Bobbi's weightless cream. An essential first step before applying makeup. This oil-free, face formula, enriched with Shea Butter, instantly hydrates, softens, and cushions skin. Carrot Extract and Vitamin A Complex help reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamins C and E help protect against environmental damage. Grapefruit and Geranium fragrances leave a light, uplifting scent on skin.

The ultimate multi tasker. This little guy is perfect as a moisturiser or primer. It is a dynamite little jar that honestly works wonders. I am planning on doing a full blog post on this soon, but I couldn't not include it in this post. It is a thick, creamy moisturiser that melts into the skin almost like an oily (without the oily residue of an oil). It hydrates the skin and helps to smooth the skin, making it the perfect prep step for make up as well. It is on the thicker side, so I am not sure how it would go for oily skin, but I love it so much.

Clinique | Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto Replenishing Hydrator*

This is the moisturiser that just keeps giving and giving! The refreshing gel-cream formula provides an instant moisture boost, and is enhanced to lock in the hydration for nourishment that lasts day and night. Featuring clever auto-replenishing technology with activated aloe water to help skin create its own internal water source to continually rehydrate itself.

I am a long time fan of the original Moisture Surge moisturiser. It is a lightweight, but extremely hydrating moisturiser. This new hydrator is very similar, but even better. It is a gel formula that is lightweight and melts into the skin easily. It is hydrating and leaves your skin looking glowy and hydrated, no matter how dry it is. It has auto-replenishing technology which helps encourage the skin to rehydrate itself. It also contains hyaluronic acid to keep your skin hydrated for up to 72 hours. It is an amazing little tub and a must have if you need a hydrating moisturiser, but don't want anything too thick or heavy.

They are my top picks for moisturisers at the moment. I have been using a combination of them throughout the past couple of months and I am obsessed with all of them. What are your top moisturisers through winter? I would love to know if I have missed any! Let me know in the comments xx

Stay tuned for tomorrow's Winter Must Have's talking about those added extras (mists and lip balms).
