Proactiv 3 Step System

If you're currently following me on Instagram you will know I have recently teamed up with Proactiv to take part in the #MyProactivJourney. Keep reading to find out what the journey involves, why I've joined and how you can get involved too!

I have battled with acne for years, ever since hitting puberty. I also thought that it would disappear as I got older, but it just hasn't. I am still struggling with spots and it has honestly let me extremely self conscious. I have been looking for options for years to help reduce my spots. This is why I am so excited to be trying out Proactiv.

Proactiv, developed by dermatologist, is a range of blemish control and skin care products. Proactiv combines effective blemish fighters into an easy to use, daily skin care regimen. With Proactiv, your beautiful skin, and the confidence that comes with it, will continue to improve even after your breakouts have cleared. Proactiv uses Benzoyl Peroxide to help treat and reduce acne. They use a finely milled Benzoyl Peroxide to help penetrate deep into the pore, where it belongs. I will be using the original 3-Step System*. You can pick this set up from the Proactiv website, where you can also sign up for an automatic delivery every three months so you will never be short of products. Alternatively you can also pick is up at Priceline, Chemist Warehouse, Terry White Chemists and Myer.

Now let's talk products, which I am sure is what you're all wondering about! The 3-Step System includes three products (obviously) designed to keep your skincare routine simple. Make sure you patch test before using, as these products can irritate sensitive skin. I started using the products by introducing them into my regime slowly - using only at night for the first few nights before I knew my skin was not going to react. This was just because I know my skin can be quite sensitive and doesn't love jumping straight in.

Step 1 - Cleanse*

Step 1 involves an oil-free cleanser, with finely milled benzoyl peroxide. It is like a really fine scrub that exfoliates the skin, unclogs pores, removes excess oil and buffs away dead skin cells and other impurities. You simply take a 10 cent piece size of Cleanse and massage it into your skin for 1-2 minutes. This won't remove eye make up and is not suitable for eyes.

I was pleasantly surprised by this product. It doesn't irritate my skin and removes make up well, and also cleanse the skin. I haven't noticed any irritation in using this product, though if you have dry skin I would be careful of using this product too often as it may dry out your skin. I am only using this at night time.

Step 2 - Tone*

The next step is an alcohol-free toner with glycolic acid (my favourite!!), designed to rehydrate and balance skin tone. It continues to exfoliate the skin, unclogging pores to prepare it for the final stage. What I was most surprised about - it contains natural botanicals (chamomile and aloe) to help soothe your skin as well.

This is probably my favourite product out of the three steps. I know it's weird to have a favourite in a system like this, but I love that this has glycolic acid. I honestly thought this step would be the most irritating, but again I have had no irritation at all. I apply a few drops to a cotton pad and then wipe over my face. I focus this particularly on my blemish prone areas (i.e. my t-zone).

Step 3 - Repair*

This is a leave-on lotion, again with finely milled benzoyl peroxide that helps to pentrate deep into the pores, targeting the source of the problem. It's important to remember that this isn't a moisturiser, and it is recommended that you should use an oil-free moisturiser (such as Proactiv's Oil Free Moisture) afterwards. Think of this like your serum.

I find that I get the most amount of tingly after using this. I focus this, again, through my t-zone and where I am seeing spots come up. I find that I do get some tingly around my nose, and sometimes on my forehead with this. It's not a severe tingle, and goes away fairly quickly. It's just that feeling of the product actually working.

I have only been using these products for about a week now, but I am super excited to see how they will go. As you can see in the images below, I haven't had any dramatic improvements yet, however I have also not had any new, huge spots appear since starting to use these products either (which is a first in a while!). I am hoping that the spots I currently have will start to disappear over the next week.
