Skincare Customised For You

Hop & Cotton Customised Skincare

You can customise everything these days - custom shoes, clothes and even stationary. So why not skincare? Our faces are all different, we have different needs and concerns, so why do we not get skin customised to your needs? Well, I'll let you in on a bit of a you can! Let me introduce you to Hop & Cotton.
I was absolutely honoured to discover Hop & Cotton a few months ago, as their customised skincare was starting to launch. Hop & Cotton is an Australian skincare brand founded by Ee Ting, who is possibly the loveliest and most welcoming lady I have ever had the pleasure to talk to online. She started Hop & Cotton because of a personal struggle. She battled extremely sensitive and reactive skin and was constantly on the search for the 'perfect product' to help skin. Except everything let her down. So why not just create her own?

So how does it work? The process to get your customised skin involves 6 simple steps:

Step 1 involves taking the Skin Test. This is a pretty comprehensive test, which will take you 5-10 minutes to complete. It asks about your skin concerns, products you are using and issues you've had. My advice, answer this as comprehensively as you can. The more information you provide, the easier it will be for Ee Ting and Hop & Cotton to make you the perfect customised skincare.

Step 2 is where you add the products you want to your cart (yes, just like any other online order!).

Step 3 is the formulation process. The team at Hop & Cotton will go through the results of your skin test and check that your selection of products is appropriate for you and your skin needs. If they think you have chosen something that might not work, they will contact you to suggest some adjustments. They will also contact you during this step if they need more information about your skin.

Step 4 happens once Hop & Cotton have decided on your formulation. They will send you through the details and a list of ingredients. This is where you get to agree or disagree on what they have planned for you. If there is something you want added or changed, this is when you get to make that decision!

Step 5 is where your wonderful skincare gets put together. You just get to sit back and relax.

Step 6 just open your door and see your package waiting for you. Yes, it's the delivery stage. Delivery can take up to 15 days, but this includes the formulation phase in the process. You can't rush good quality customised skincare.

Hop & Cotton Customised Skincare

It seems like a long process, but I promise you it's so worth it. Ee Ting took me all through this process and I love that it was all about what I wanted the whole way through. I talked to her about my concerns (acne, dry skin and sensitivity) and spoke of what I loved in my skincare (gentle, lightweight and easy to use) and what I hated (foaming cleansers...) and she came back with a list of ingredients and product suggestions for me. I could've added and changed anything, but Ee Ting knew exactly what she was talking about and the skincare she suggested sounded exactly like what I both wanted and needed. I got sent a list of the products she suggested, with ingredients and their benefits. There was no complicated language or anything, it was just easy to understand. And so I ended up with my three products.

 The Foam Party*

Despite it's name, H & C customised the cleanser so that it wasn't a foaming cleanser. I have never been a fan of foaming cleansers, I just find they leave my skin feeling dry, which I told H & C, so instead it's a gel like consistency. It's light and gentle and leaves my skin feeling so clean, but also also hydrated and calm (two things that are extremely important to me in cleansers).

Hop & Cotton The Foam Party

Another way you could use this cleanser is by diluting a small amount on a cotton pad, turning into a micellar water. I am yet to try this, as I may have completely forgotten it was an option...but now that I know, I am for sure going to try again.

The packaging on this is amazing. It is an air tight (airless?) pumps, with no mess and means that you will be able to get every last drop of product out of the bottle. Also, super hygienic. I love it.

 The Smooth Operator*

So you have cleanser your face, the next step is to tone (or exfoliate). When Ee Ting suggested I try a chemical exfoliant, I jumped at the opportunity. My exfoliant contains glycolic and salicylic acid - two of my favourite ingredients. They both work wonders for acne and I have to say, I think this product is the reason my acne is starting to clear up (I say that after a week of awful blemishes, which I am contributing to stress and too much chocolate) and making my spots disappear a lot faster than they usually would.

Hop & Cotton The Smooth Operator

I originally started using this product every two to three nights, and gradually increased it to ever night or every other night depending on how my skin was feeling. I didn't notice a tiny bit of tingliness and mild dryness when I first started using it, but my skin now loves it! My skin is feeling and looking fantastic lately and I have to attribute most of that to this exfoliant.

I have to say, I freaking love the packaging on this toner as well. It has a little pump on the top, so all you have to do is get a cotton pad and press down with it over the pump once or twice and swipe the cotton pad across your face. It's awesome!!!!

 The Brilliant*

The third and final step (yes, super simple skincare, only three steps) is moisturiser of course. While I have dry skin, Ee Ting suggested I go for a lighter moisturiser, as thick moisturisers can cause clogging and congestion, leading to blemishes.

Hop & Cotton The Brilliant

My moisturiser was lightweight and oil-free, specifically designed to hydrate my skin and  help with reducing redness and blemishes, while also being calming. This moisturiser contains the power of a serum and eye cream as well, so I literally don't need to use anything else. I have loved it. I did find it a little hard to use during winter when my skin was really dry, but now that it's starting to warm up, I am loving it. It's hydrating and leaves my skin feeling soft and just happy, but I don't get that oily or sticky residue afterwards. It just feels like your natural, happy skin.

Again, this product uses the airless pump, making it hygienic and easy to use!

I just have to say how much I have enjoyed the process of creating my own skincare. The process was easy and Ee Ting made it pain free too. I didn't have to understand the complicated ingredients and their benefits, H & C just made it simple, telling me exactly what I needed and why. If you have sensitive or easily irritated skin, or even just want to use skincare that is going to give you the best results for your needs, then I would 110% recommend checking out Hop & Cotton.
