Let's start with the eyes. There is something about going for a dark eye that is so enticing during autumn. This summer, I went for a very natural look, but I have been itching to try something a little darker, and what better time than Autumn! I used theBalm Meet Matt(e) Trimony* to create this look. It is a gorgeous matte palette with some really nice purple shades. Keeping with the plum kind of theme, this palette is perfect. While I, like every other girl, loves a bit of shimmer, mattes are great come cooler weather, plus I find they last way better throughout the day as well (I've had this look on all day and it still looks as good as when I first applied it).
I used Matt Lin my base shade and to set my eyeshadow primer. Then worked Matte Lopez into the crease. I applied Matt Kumar to the inner and outer edges of my eyes, deepening the purple on the edges with Matt Read and Matt Moskowitz, blending it all out with a big fluffy brush. To finish, I took Matt Ahmed along my lash liner, it give some slight definition around my lashes, without the pain of trying to do liquid eyeliner.
Can I just say, this palette is amazing! I am usually terrified by doing any other look than my typical natural smokey eye, but this palette is so much fun and so pigmented. It is definitely going to become a favourite through autumn and winter!
Now for the cheeks. While I loved my bronzer through summer, to give me that subtle summer glow! Through autumn, I love going for a darker blush, giving my cheeks a rosy pop instead. Inika's Mineral Blush in Red Apple* is the perfect autumn blush if you ask me. It has a dark, yet natural warm glow. For my autumn look, I added a pop of colour to the apples on my cheeks, and then swept them up my cheek. With this particular blush, a little goes a long way. It is so pigmented, and while you want a nice pop of colour in your cheeks, you don't want it to look like you've gone to town on your cheeks and now have some weird skin problem.
The last and final touch is the lips. Plum and purple shades are perfect come autumn. Save those pinks and corals for when spring comes back around, it's time to pull out those dark colours instead. I love the dark colours in autumn, but the super deep plums scared me a little bit, because they can highlight how pale I really am. However, thanks to Adore Beauty I have now discovered the perfect plum shade. The Shanghai Suzy Whipped Matte Lipstick in Miss Kitty Black Plum* has a red undertone to it, giving you the gorgeous plum that is perfect in winter, without making you look like a ghost trying to pull off a plum lipstick. While it is a matte lipstick, it is hydrating and long last formula, that I have quickly fallen in love with.
Now for the final look. Bear in mind that I am no make up artist, but I was really happy with out it turned out. I wish I could've captured it better, but I am still learning how to photograph make up looks!
So these are my Autumn Essential make up items - a good eye shadow palette that can give you some gorgeous dark looks, a gorgeous, darker toned blush, and a plum lipstick. Autumn is the time to play around with darker tones, so go on! You know you want to!
