Rimmel 'The Only 1' Matte

I'm sure you all remember when Rimmel released 'The Only 1' lipstick range. They were some of, in my opinion, the best drug store lipsticks ever. Creamy and hydrating, plus so pigmented. Well you'll all be happy to know that Rimmel is now releasing 'The Only 1' in a matte lipstick range. Amazing, I know. About a week ago, I had all nine GORGEOUS shades arrive in my mail box and am just too excited not to share this gorgeous range with you.

Rimmel London The Only 1 Matte Lipstick is a lipstick that offers a non-drying, matte finish. It glides onto the lips without dragging for high coverage, full impact colour that lasts for hours. A light emollient oil is combined with a liquid polymer to provide a comfortable, moisturising feel. The oil is absorbed on application, creating a thin film between the skin and the pigment, banishing that dry sensation often felt with matte lipsticks. It also features volatile silicone to give a smooth and even colour release, which helps to set the lipstick for superior colour wear. (Description courtesy of beautydirectory)

I have to agree with pretty much all of the description! I usually don't go for matte lipsticks as they are often extremely drying on the lips, and there is nothing worse than dry, cracked lips thanks to your lipstick, no matter how gorgeous the colour is. Rimmel's matte lipsticks are not like that at all though! I was so impressed when I first applied these lipsticks to see that yes, they had a satin/matte finish, but were still hydrating and didn't dry your lips out. I would view them as being more of a satin finish, but either way the finish is amazing. I was also very impressed with how pigmented the colour was. One swipe was basically all I needed to get a gorgeous colour on my lips. They are also fairly long lasting too. Look, they are not going to last through lunch, or brunch, or whatever meal it is you're eating, but if you don't eat, well honey it'll last all day! (But let's be real, a girl's gotta eat). My only pet peeve with these lipsticks, and was the same with the original lipstick, is the shape of the actual lipstick. I hate the flat top, and I find it really hard to apply a precise line to my lips and always have to get out a lipstick brush to apply it properly. Look it's not a big issue, just that I am used to a more traditional lipstick shape, but otherwise these lipsticks are a solid 10 from me.

As for the shades. There are nine gorgeous shades, with a colour to suit everyone's need and personality!

I'll share some of my favourite first. The left hand shade (Salute) and the middle shade (Trend Setter) have easily become my favourite nudes and I have basically worn either one every day since I received them. The shade on the left is a really gorgeous brown colour (Look Who's Talking), not sure I could pull it off, but it is a stunning shade none the less.

Now lets have a look at the pinks! From left to right the shades are Leader of the Pink, Call The Shots and High Flyer. The first two are also not shades I think I will wear, mostly because I'm not a pink kinda gal. Just feels way too girly for me. The one on the left has easily become a staple in my handbag as well.

Last we have a gorgeous red (Take The Stage), a plum (The Matte Factor) and an adventurous purple (Run The Show). I will always say yes to more reds, you can never have enough reds in my opinion! And the plum is going to be amazing come winter time. I've always wanted a plum. The purple is the most terrifying lipstick I've ever owned and in all honesty I will probably never wear it!

I didn't swatch all of the shades, but here are Trend Setter, High Flyer and Take The Stage to get an idea of what the formula is like. They are so pigmented and creamy and not at all drying. I love them!

What shade do you want to get your hands on the most?!

  1. Trend setter and high flyer look like they'd be my fave too! These sound amazing x

  2. Everyone is raving about these at the moment and I keep hearing they are matte but hydrating so I'm super keen to try them.

  3. I love my lipsticks! I really really want to try these I love the pinks

  4. I love the plum and the deep reds - the only problem I tend to have with Rimmel is how easily it comes off - one day at work it was essentially smearing around on my face :/ but the colours are beautiful and rich -- so maybe I'd need to enlist the help of some setting powder or something !

  5. I was sent the range as well and I'm absolutely loving them! I actually didn't love the originals because I found them a bit too slippy for my liking, so the matte ones are perfect for me! I agree though, I really dislike the bullet shape! So difficult to get a precise shape!

  6. Oooh I'm obsessed with the packaging! And honestly, Rimmel lipsticks never disappoint!

  7. I absolutely loved the originals, I agree in that they were probably one of the best formulas! I am so excited for these ones! xx

  8. Rimmel London always does lipsticks so well! I had loved the originals back when I used Rimmel so I can imagine these would be amazing too :)

  10. These are such lovely shades. I love the swatches. I think the top shade is the nicest for me. I've never been a glossy lip gal for some reason.
