Skin to Die For : Peter Thomas Roth

We all want skin to die for and the new Peter Thomas Roth range that is available at Sephora is designed to give us just that. I have been testing out the CC Cream from this range and wanted to share my thoughts about it with you.

For those of you that haven't heard of Peter Thomas Roth before, let me introduce you. PTR's passion for skin care is derived from his quest to find effective products to treat his own personal skin care concerns. Initially his primary issue was acne and as time went on anti-aging issues as well. His interests eventually grew into a desire to find the best tools to combat acne, the many signs of aging, as well as protecting the skin from sun damage. His mission: to combine effective and potent ingredients with advanced technology. The Peter Thomas Roth brand philosophy is simple; Breakthrough formulas. Astonishing results. As the product formulator, Peter leads all research and development efforts to deliver progressive, cutting-edge products in his own lab and production facility. He scours the earth for the best and most powerful ingredients to deliver state of the art quality at effective concentrations. The product line currently consists of a comprehensive range of over 100 products sold world-wide. The Peter Thomas Roth line was created to be customized to an individual’s skin care needs, covers all skin types and addresses all skin care concerns from head to toe.

I have been starting to try more PTR products recently and have been pleasantly surprised by them. It has always been a brand that I have been curious about, particularly because of their face masks. Surprisingly enough, they were not the products that I have enjoyed the most.

Skin to Die For Mineral Matte CC Cream SPF 30*

A skin-perfecting, anti-aging CC cream with all-mineral sunscreen filters, Hyaluronic Acid and sheer, buildable, color-correcting coverage to help minimize the look of imperfections.

I am really starting to adore light coverage base products. Foundations that leave my skin looking like skin, but still help to even out skin tone and cover my pigmentation. I wasn't sure what to think of this CC Cream when it rocked up, but after having Tarlie rave about it to me (and I trust anything she raves about), I was so excited.

It's like no base product I have ever tried before. It designed to help minimize the look of imperfections for skin that looks younger, smoother, brighter and more evenly toned, immediately and over time. It contains some incredible ingredients including: THD Ascorbate, a potent ingredient 50 X more powerful than traditional Vitamin C; Hyaluronic Acid, which hydrates by attracting and retaining up to 1,000 times its weight in water from moisture in the air; and light-scattering optics, which help instantly diffuse the appearance of imperfections.  It also contains Vitamin E provides antioxidant benefits while Kaolin Clay helps absorb excess oil.

Let my raving start here - this little tube has completely won me over in the month or so I have it. I have been wearing it almost daily as my base/foundation and it leaves my skin looking amazing.

Being a matte finish, I always apply a hydrating primer underneath to ensure it doesn't cling to my dry patches (which I will admit it does sometimes). It is a thick consistency, but spreads and buffs into the skin easily. I personally prefer to use a brush to apply, but I know other people who have found it easy to apply with fingers and a beauty blender as well. Once it's applied it has a natural finish to it. It's not completely matte, but also doesn't leave you looking shiny or oily. Think natural matte.

It has a light to medium coverage. It covers my pigmentation and uneven skin tone. It also mostly covers my blemishes. I do still need a little bit of concealer on the angry ones, but overall my skin almost looks flawless (BUT STILL NATURAL!)

As for longevity, this has been the big winner for me. It lasts all damn day. Even when my skin is hormonal and angry, and nothing will last on it, this stays in plays, with a decent coverage all day. I do find it goes a little bit shiny, but they do also have a Skin to Die For Primer* which is a no-filter, mattifying primer and complexion perfector, designed to help manage oiliness throughout the day. I haven't tried this out yet, but I might pull it out in summer.

The negative for me is definitely the shade range. Yes, it is a CC cream, not technically a foundation, but there are only three shades. The lightest shade (light) is slightly too dark for me, though I make it work by taking it down my next and using a little bronzer. It definitely doesn't cater to either end of the shade spectrum, and I would love to see them bring out more shades of this.

Overall I have been so in love with this product lately. I can see it becoming a fast favourite for every day use. It's already over taken my love affair with both the Nars Tinted Moisturiser and Mecca Weekend Skin Tint, which were fighting over the top place in the lightweight coverage department.

While I can't comment on the skincare benefits and how they are going long term, I do love that it is a base product that I know is helping to care for it rather than cause problems. I haven't found that my skin feels dry or is breaking out after wearing it, which is a win. It also doesn't feel like I'm wearing make up throughout the day.

That was a much longer review than I was anticipating, but it's been such a winner for me, so I hope it's useful!

I'd love to hear if you've tried this or any other Peter Thomas Roth products. Let me know in the comments below xx
