Get the Recipe to Glowing Skin

Everyone wants that gorgeous glowy skin that looks like it has just had the most luxurious facial ever. However, we don't always have the time or money to fit treatments into our life. What if I could tell you that you could get that same glow from home? You don't even have to leave the house. Today we are going to talk about Glow Recipe.

Glow Recipe recently launched in MECCA, which means it is now even easier for us Aussie's to get our hand on this gorgeous brand. Seeing the brand on Instagram all the time, I have always been super curious about their products, and aside from a couple of minis, I hadn't really had the chance to try them. I was very fortunate to receive a lovely box from MECCA when the brand launched in store, and after using it for a little while, I am SUPER excited to share more about the brand with you.

Founded by beauty industry veterans Sarah Lee and Christine Chang, Glow Recipe is a natural skin care line powered by real fruit extracts for a soft, plump and hydrated complexion. The collection features Korean technology, sensorial textures and addictive formulas that help create noticeably healthier skin. Christine Chang and Sarah Lee met when working in marketing for the beauty industry, and became fast friends with their shared passion for skin care thanks to their Korean heritage. A stint on Shark Tank (they ended up not accepting investment) and research trips to South Korea inspired for them to launch their beauty brand Glow Recipe, which realised their dreams of skin care products inspired by their bi-cultural background that are big on results but uses only natural ingredients.

After reading a MECCA Memo article about the founders, I kind of fell even more in love with the brand. They shared stories of going to Korean bath houses with their mothers and grandmothers and splashing green tea or patting milk on their faces. Their grandmothers used to use Watermelon in the summers to soothe heat rashes, which helped them to miraculously heal overnight. This is where the iconic Watermelon range came from, "giving that Korean facial experience in one jar, that works so hard overnight that you wake up to this smoother, brighter skin".

All of the Glow Recipe products are free from parabens, SLS + SLES, synthetic dyes, mineral oils, phthalates, formaldehydes + formaldehyde-releasing agents, pegs, hydroquinone, plastic microbeads, artificial colorants, and BHA/BHT (butylated hydroxyanisole and butylated hydroxytoluene, preservatives that are not to be confused with beta hydroxy acid).  Formulas are never formulated with more than 0.5% synthetic fragrance. Glow Recipe uses the minimum amount of fragrance, when necessary, to create a sensorial, enjoyable skincare experience. All fragrances we use are tested and free of pcm and linalool.

Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser*

what is it? It is a gentle cleanser and make up remover that is packed with antioxidant rich blueberries, hyaluronic acid and AHA's to gentle purifies the skin through a foamy formulation. Designed to remove make up and dead skin cells, while also moisturising the skin, like a hydrating toner, to leave your skin looking dewier after cleansing.

key ingredients?
Blueberry extract: An antioxidant packed berry that fights against free radicals to prevent premature aging whilst naturally hydrating, calming skin and minimising discolouration.
Hyaluronic acid: Deeply hydrates skin to keep it moisturised and nourished for hours on end.
AHA's: A blend of lactic and glycolic acids gently exfoliate and hydrate, leaving a more youthful, smoother and brighter appearance.
Hydrating suds: Microfoaming bubbles remove makeup, dirt and impurities.

my thoughts? Let's start with the big negative for me - I HATE the scent of this cleanser. I have used a mini of this previously and didn't like it and it definitely didn't improve in the full size for me, unfortunately. I don't quite know what it is, but it's like coriander - will ALWAYS smell it, no matter how much I use it. I did try to put this aside to give you an honest review on the cleanser itself. Despite the smell, it is a damn good cleanser. It is a lightly foaming cleanser, however it doesn't dry out your skin (hallelujah!) and does leave you feeling hydrated and your skin looking almost a little dewy. Over the course of the time I have been using it, my skin has been looking softer and brighter, which I am sure comes from the other products as well. The price point is a little high and because of my distaste for the smell, I would repurchase it again myself, but if you are in the market for a damn good cleanser that will help to brighten and soften your skin, I would recommend it. Maybe give it a whiff in store first.

cost? $52.

Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturiser*

what is it? A concentrated, weightless gel-like moisturiser, formulated with watermelon extract that deeply hydrates skin for a rejuvenated, natural glow.  It is designed to hydrate and soothe the skin while helping to prep it for make up application. It also helps to protect from environmental agressors. It can be used as a daily moisturiser for normal to oily skin types or as a serum for dry skin.

key ingredients?
Watermelon: An amino-rich extract that deeply hydrates, soothes and fights free radical damage to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Hyaluronic Acid: Containing 1000x it's weight in water, hyaluronic acid quenches thirsty skin, breathing new life into the complexion.
Antioxidants: Protect against environmental aggressors

my thoughts? I really enjoyed using this moisturiser. It is definitely a really light weight moisturiser that is not designed for dry skin (as a moisturiser, is heavenly as a serum). As it is winter and my skin needs a little extra hydration, I found this was perfect for the morning, under SPF and make up, but I preferred to use a thicker moisturiser at night and use this as a serum. It smells HEAVENLY, I am a little obsessed with the scent of it. I would say that my skin has been feeling more hydrated while using it. Dry patches were soothed and overall my skin felt like it had been given a much needed drink. I think this would be a dynamite moisturiser through summer for dry skin - hydrating, without the heaviness of a thick moisturiser. I also found it great for soothing any irritation that my skin got from the cold winter winds. It's not my favourite ever moisturiser, but it's because it doesn't meet all my current needs as a moisturiser, but it's a heavenly product that I am thoroughly enjoying using.

cost? $60.

Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask*

what is it? A skin-smoothing, glow-boosting treatment infused with watermelon, AHA's and Hyaluronic Acid that gently exfoliates and refines pores, in a super versatile formula that can be used as an overnight or wash-off mask. The perfect overnight mask to nourish the skin while you sleep. AHA's will gently smooth the surface of the skin by gently removing dead skin cells, whilst hyaluronic acid soaks in moisture, for intensely hydrated skin overnight.

key ingredients?
Watermelon: Amino-packed, watermelon extract deeply hydrates whilst fighting environmental ingredients to banish fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots.
Hyaluronic Acid: Quenches even the thirstiest of skin, breathing life into rough, dry skin in an instant.
AHA's: A blend of lactic and glycolic acids gently exfoliate and hydrate, leaving a more youthful, smoother and brighter appearance.
Peony root - Brightens and smooths skin.

my thoughts? This. Mask. Is. AMAZING! I love it so damn much. I bought a mini jar from Cult Beauty a year or so ago and loved it then. I love it even more now. It is the most bizarre but amazing product. In a weird jelly type texture that almost feels like nothing - like water. It is so light, but at the same time intensely hydrating. I use it as an overnight mask - applying it before bed. When I wake up, my skin is glowing and hydrated, looking so much brighter then the night before. While it does contain acids, I have never had issues with irritation, it is just amazing. I don't know how it does it, but it works need this in your life.

cost? $69.

Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask*

what is it? A firming, moisturising mask that alleviates dry flaky skin and nourishes overnight, without leaving any residue on your pillow. It intensely hydrates, brightens and nourishes your skin overnight.

key ingredients?
Avocado: packed with oleic and linoleic acid which restore moisture and collagen in the skin.
Manuka Honey: Antioxidant packed and antibacterial, manuka honey refreshes and revitalizes stressed out skin.
PHA - Gently exfoliates while you sleep.
Kaolin - Extracts impurities from the skin without irritating to decongest pores and absorb excess oil.

my thoughts? I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about this mask, but I love it so much. For my dry skin, this has been heavenly. I apply a small amount before bed and it helps to instantly hydrate my skin overnight. It has been the perfect mask for when my skin is feeling irritated, a little bit flaky or just looking a bit flat and dry. I have heard a lot of oily skin people saying they don't love it, so if you have oily skin, it might not be for you, but you dry skin girls will LOVE this mask!

cost? $69.

It's safe to say that Glow Recipe has very quickly won my heart and I am a big fan of their products, particularly their masks. Mecca is now also stocking the Watermelon Glow Ultra Fine Mist, which I haven't tried, but have heard amazing things about. I believe the newest Glow Recipe product, the Pineapple-C Brightening Serum, will also be joining the collection in store and online very soon, and it also sounds fabulous!

Have you tried any of the Glow Recipe products yet? I would love to hear your thoughts on them - are you loving them as much as me? Let me know in the comments below. xx
