Why I won't be sharing reviews on the 'latest' products

Last year I was all about buying the latest products so I could get in early and do a review the next week. I would happily drop my latest pay check to make sure that I was up with the latest products, that my blog was only sharing the hottest reviews of the time.

You probably won't find me doing that this year. One thing I realised in 2018 was that in trying to 'keep up with the latest trends' I was buying so many products that either didn't suit me or that I didn't end up liking or I just didn't need. If I added up how much I spent on beauty products last year I would be appalled, because it was ridiculous. I think in the blogging community there is this real push to be sharing reviews of the latest products because 'no one wants to read a review of a product that came out six months ago, let alone three years ago". You feel pressured into buying anything and everything when it first comes out and it's not healthy.

In 2018 I felt that I was forced into constantly testing out new skincare products each week, which is hard to do when you actually want to see results from the products. I felt pressured into constantly having to do reviews of products that I am not wanting to try, but feel like I need to review. It makes the whole process of blogging hard work and makes it less enjoyable, which at the end of the day is what I want - something that isn't work that I enjoy doing as a creative outlet.

In 2019 I have set myself the challenge of having a 'no buy', or a 'low buy' because I know that occasionally I will want to treat myself to something new. I will be trying to not purchase beauty products UNLESS I have run out and it needs to be replaced. I will trying to wait for reviews of new release products to come out before buying them myself. Why? Because I honestly don't need it and I don't think my blog needs to have the latest products on it to still stay relevant. Yes, I am very fortunate that I get sent a lot of new releases that I try to review as soon as possible, but I will be cutting back on receiving products that I know are not suited to my skin type. I want to be getting through more of my stash and wasting less products.

What this means for my blog - this means that I will reviewing 'older' products, products that may have been in my collection for 6 months or a little bit longer. Products that may have been on the shelves for more than a year. Products that I have tested out thoroughly (almost to completion) to be able to share my complete and honest thoughts on the results I had while using them. This will ensure that I can give you, my lovely readers, more in depth reviews rather than churning out quick and short reviews of products I have barely tried.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this idea of sharing the 'latest, new, wow now' products. Do you think it's important to be sharing reviews of the latest products? Or would you much prefer to share reviews on products you already have, on 'older products'? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
