The Foundation Files : Ella Baché Suncover Great SPF50 Foundation

In the last couple of years, sun protection has become one of my top priorities whenever I am going to be out in the sun, especially through summer. If I can have a foundation that doubles as a sun protection and cut one step out of my routine in the morning, that is a huge win. So today let's talk about a new SPF50 foundation.
For those of you who haven't read one of my Foundation Files before, in each review I will give you photos of my skin before application, immediately after application and at the end of the day. I will talk about how I prep my skin before applying, as well as the method that I use to apply. I will also talk about the coverage and finish, as well as how well I think it wears throughout the day. Now as for my skin type (which will impact what I think of foundations) I have dry/normal skin. I do have blemish and pigmentation concerns, particularly in my T-Zone. Without further adieu, let's get into it!

This summer, Ella Baché has released a brand new foundation as part of their sun protection range. The Suncover Great SPF50 Foundation* is the latest addition to the Ella Baché collection. A moisturising and light-diffusing SPF50 medium coverage foundation, which not only moisturises the skin, but also protects the skin from UVA and UVB rays and softens the appearance of fine lines and gives a flawless complexion. It is enriched with Green Tea antioxidants, Jojoba and Lanolin to protect, moisturise and comfort the skin. SPF50 broad spectrum sun protection helps prevent visible signs of premature ageing. If don't have an SPF50 sun protection in your collection, especially if you are in Australia, WHY THE HELL NOT?! Made in Australia for Australian skin.

I have heard some mixed reviews about the foundation, particularly in regards to the shade range. There is only four shades available, which is not very comprehensive. A lot of people with fair skin have also found the foundations are much too dark for them. I've also heard mixed about the finish and the lasting power. I am going in with out bias and I am excited to see how this works, because I am after a good SPF foundation that I can trust.

I haven't been using a primer when applying foundation recently, mostly because I am just lazy, so I can't comment on how this goes with a primer. Once I have finished my skincare I always wait a couple of minutes before applying the foundation. I have been applying a couple of dots on my face and then blending in with a foundation brush. The foundation is quite a thick consistency - typical of what you'd expect of a zinc or thick sunscreen. What I have been surprised by, is how easy it blends into the skin. Typically with a thick foundation they are often a nightmare to try and blend in, looking streaky and is just more of a pain than it's worth. This is not one of those foundations. It blended in effortlessly. I applied one layer, which I found was a sheer to light cover. It evened out skin tone, but didn't really cover spots or pigmentation. I then applied a little bit more where I needed it and was able to build it up to a medium coverage. The finish is a glowy finish, typical of what you would expect from a sunscreen, so if you have oily skin I can't imagine that you would like the finish. As someone with dry skin, I don't mind it. The finish reminds me a bit of the original It Cosmetic CC Cream and the Clinique Even Better Glow. It looks natural and glowy on the skin - two things that I am loving in a foundation at the moment. I have been wearing the shade Light Beige. It matched surprisingly well. It may be because I have a slight tan at the moment, because I did think it would be too dark, but it was perfect.

As for lasting power - this is another aspect that has been mixed amongst it's users. I was quite impressed with how it wore throughout the day. I didn't have massive amounts of transfer, like I would typically with a glowy foundation. Yes, I had some wear in my t-zone, but that's not uncommon. Overall it lasted really well. I didn't find that I got shinier during the day, just the same glowiness as when I applied it in the morning.

Overall I have to say I am impressed and have been quite enjoying this foundation. I don't know how I could go with it on a bad skin day, but then again I am always going to reach for my trusty Double Wear on a bad skin day. For a good skin day and a light coverage foundation, I am really enjoying it. I haven't found any major problems with the foundation, despite the lack of shades - which fortunately doesn't affect me.

I would love to hear what you think though. Have you tried this foundation before? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below xx
