The Foudation Files : Benefit Hello Happy Soft Blur Foundation

There have been so exciting foundation releases recently, one in particular caught me eye and I had to grab one to test out myself. Curious about the new Benefit Hello Happy Soft Blur Foundation? Read all about it now.

Before we start, I just wanted to give you a little overview of what you can expect from all of my Foundation Files posts (if you've read a Foundation Files before, you can probably skip this, unless you need a little recap). In each review I will give you photos of my skin before application, immediately after application and at the end of the day. I will talk about how I prep my skin before applying, as well as the method that I use to apply. I will also talk about the coverage and finish, as well as how well I think it wears throughout the day. Now as for my skin type (which will impact what I think of foundations) I have dry/normal skin. I do have blemish and pigmentation concerns, particularly in my T-Zone. Without further adieu, let's get into it!

The Benefit Hello Happy Soft Blur Foundation is one of the newest foundations on the market and I was intrigued first and fore mostly by the adorable packaging, but upon further research I was curious to try the formula and see how well it really works.

First, let's find out a little bit about this foundation - this lightweight foundation evens out skintone and blurs imperfections with soft-focus optical blurring spheres. With a natural-matte finish and light-to-medium coverage, it looks like skin and feels like nothing at all. Those who have tested the foundation have said it to be weightless, breathable and the perfect blurring foundation. How does it actually go? Well, you're reading this because I put it to the test!

Being a matte foundation, I knew I would have to prep my skin well in order to stop it looking dry and cakey on my skin. I applied the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base* followed by the Mecca Lit From Within Primer on my high points. This gave my skin a hydrated and dewy finish. To apply, you first need to shake the bottle well. It is almost like a liquid powder formula, so it needs to be shaken well before it is applied. I have been using my beauty blender to apply the foundation, blending it out where needed with a brush. It applies and blends easily, before setting to an almost powder like finish.

It is a sheer to medium coverage with a natural matte finish. I wasn't having the best skin day when I tested this foundation out, but it seemed to cover my spots extremely well. It is not a true matte, more of a semi-matte that looks natural on the skin. Because of the powder like finish, you do not need to set this powder. However, once I finished applying the foundation and let it set, I noticed that it had gone quite dry in a number of patches. There was one thing that I did not like about the foundation. As Dave remarked 'it looks like you are wearing foundation...'. I like my foundation to look natural, like skin, not like an obvious layer of make up. For me, this was a bit disappointing. As the foundation is designed to have a sheer to medium coverage, it should look quite natural, but I found it to look quite obvious on the skin.

Now, as for the lasting power, I was quite impressed. Despite looking quite heavy on the skin, it lasted really well and barely budged by the end of the day. I was a little shiny, but it was a glowy kind of shine. There was still some patchiness and cakiness, but seeing as this was around in the morning, I wasn't too surprised by this.

All in all, it is definitely an intriguing foundation. While, I don't think is the best foundation for my skin at the moment, I could see this being quite nice during summer, when I can blend it out a little bit more and wear a little bit less and when my skin is a little bit less dry. I feel like this foundation would be beautiful on oily skin, as the finish would help hide some oiliness.

Have you tried the Benefit Hello Happy Foundation yet? I would love to hear your thoughts on it xx
