The Foundation Files: Esteé Lauder Double Wear Nude

Today we will be revisiting Esteé Lauder for another Foundation Files. In the spotlight today is the new Double Wear Nude foundation, which I picked up recently to try out.

Before we start, I just wanted to give you a little overview of what you can expect from all of my Foundation Files posts (if you've read a Foundation Files before, you can probably skip this, unless you need a little recap). In each review I will give you photos of my skin before application, immediately after application and at the end of the day. I will talk about how I prep my skin before applying, as well as the method that I use to apply. I will also talk about the coverage and finish, as well as how well I think it wears throughout the day. Now as for my skin type (which will impact what I think of foundations) I have dry/normal skin. I do have blemish and pigmentation concerns, particularly in my T-Zone. Without further adieu, let's get into it!

As you might remember from a previous Foundation File I absolutely love the original Esteé Lauder Double Wear Foundation. It is my favourite full coverage foundation ever! So when I heard that they were releasing a 'nude' version, which was designed as a lighter, more glowy finish, I was excited! What is the nude version? Think: Real-skin flawless. Real protection. 24-hour staying power. That's how Esteé Lauder describes it anyway! This fluid, long-wear makeup feels like you have nothing on. Moves comfortably with your skin. Looks fresh, natural, healthy, even-toned. With SPF 25 and anti-oxidants, it’s your invisible defense against environmental damage from UV rays and pollution. Instantly and continuously hydrates with a moisture complex of red fruit extracts, including watermelon, lychee seed and apple. In shades for all skintones.

Retailing for $58, it is on par with the original Double Wear Foundation. I picked up the shade 1C1 Cool Bone, one shade later then what I wear in the original, which is a better match for my skin without a tan.

The consistency of this foundation is definitely like water (which makes sense seeing as it's 'water fresh' foundation. The only thing I don't like about this, which connects to my pet peeve about Esteé Lauder foundations is that it is so hard not to accidentally get WAYYY too much out. It would be perfect if it had a pump, but no...they don't come with pumps, that costs $10 extra...

I have tried a few different primers with this foundation, but have found the Smashbox Photofinish Primer works the best. Illuminzing primers can make you too a little too glowy, and I find that the foundation doesn't last quite as well over the top of them. So I apply the primer then I use my sponge (because that's all I use to apply foundations these days) to apply the foundation. Sponge works well, though it does give a little bit of a sheerer finish them a brush or fingers, but I find it the easiest and quickest option for me. It blends easily and gives a gorgeous dewy and healthy finish once applied. I am always really happy with how my skin looks after I have applied the foundation. I set with my MAC Prep and Prime Fix+ Spray* and away I go. The foundation feels lovely on the skin and it definitely has that weightless, 'I'm not wearing any make up' feel on the skin.

Almost every time I apply this foundation I find that within the first hour it creases under my eyes and a little bit around my nose/mouth. Once I've blended them and fixed it up it has been lasting pretty well since, but I do wish that it wouldn't crease so quickly. As for lasting, I definitely wouldn't say it is a 24 hour lasting foundation. Being a dewier foundation, it does transfer. Not massively like some foundations, but it isn't a transfer-proof foundation. While it took me a few goes to actually get it to look decent for majority of the day, now I have to say it does last pretty well. Aside from going a little patchy around my mouth, it lasts pretty well. It doesn't last for a super long day, but for those days when I want a lighter foundation that just gives me a healthy glow I will definitely be reaching for this. I don't yet love it, mostly because of the creasing factor, but the finish after it has been applied is lovely and on the days it lasts, it does look gorgeous through the day.

Have you tried the Esteé Lauder Double Wear Nude Foundation? I would love to hear your thoughts on it and how you have been finding it. Everyone seems to be loving it, but I have just been finding the wear not so great xx
