Face Mask Directory

After dubbing myself the Face Mask Queen and starting my weekly series on Instagram (#FaceMaskFriday - share your masks, I want to see them!) I have had a number of people asking about masks for specific skincare needs so I decided I'd do a bit of a 'directory' post.
In this post you will find a list of masks that I use for various skincare needs and issues. I have also had some assistance from family and friends. Now I should just say, that while others find that these work for particular skin needs they may differ slightly for you. So take this as a guide, not the bible and always patch test if you're concerned. There may be a couple of double ups between sections as well, because masks, like many skincare they cater to a number of different needs.

Sensitive/Irritated Skin

We all have days when our skin is just not cooperating, or you have had a reaction or anything and you need something that is going to calm your skin, soothe and rehydrate.  This category isn't going to be huge as I have a couple that I trust and when I have irritation I don't want to stray too much from them. But these couple work extremely well for me when I have irritation.

Mizon Enjoy Vital-Up Time Soothing Mask // from $2

If I need an easy mask, this is my go to. It is a sheet mask that I just put on for anywhere between 5 and 20 minutes. If I am having any irritation it just cools, calms and soothes my skin. Enriched with healing lavender extract to soothe irritation and remedy sensitivity. It contains Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid so it is also really hydrating. Plus, at $2, it is a really affordable option for those days when you just need something to help quickly.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask // from $24

Now this is a mask that you will see again later in this post. It is my go to when I have dry and irritated skin. A little bit goes a long way with this mask and I save it for those nights when my skin is just not happy. The best part is that you just put it on before bed and away you go. It contains apricot kernel oil, avocado and Japanese seaweed so it is extremely hydrating and also helps to minimise the signs of premature ageing. I don't think I could get through winter without this mask.

Dry/Dehydrated Skin

This seems like a good follow on from sensitive, because a lot of mask that I use for irritation, I find work for dry skin as well and vice versa.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask // from $24

I said that it would pop up again. I won't talk about it again, except to say it is my go to for dry skin. I apply a thick layer before bed and it means that I can wake up in the morning without dry or flaky skin, making make up application so much easier in the morning.

Botani Radiant Rose Mask* // $39.95

Bot├íni’s Radiant Rose Mask is a relaxing, pampering salon treatment in a jar. Nourishing botanicals combine together in this delicately Rose Geranium scented, light-as-air mask that revives lifeless skin, leaving you with soft, moisturised, plump skin. It is hydrating and nourishing and while there is a subtle rose scent, it's not overpowering. It is what I go for when I need something really calming and relaxing.

Frank Body Glow Mask // $21.95

I absolutely adore this mask. Designed to give you glowing skin, I actually find it perfect for dry skin. It has a really lightweight, creamy consistency and I simple apply and leave it for 10-15 minutes before removing and my skin feels like it's had an instant boost of life (thanks caffeine!). It helps with puffiness and dullness (so you'll see it in the next category too), but is fantastic for a quick hydration boost. Infused with a nourishing blend of antioxidant-packed goji berry extract, deeply hydrating shea and cocoa butter , caffeine -and- vitamin-E -rich arabic coffee seed oil to tone and firm and cranberry and raspberry seed oil, full of vitamin E , vitamin A and omgeas 3, 6 and 9 to plump. Everything you need.

Mecca Cosmetica Fresh Faced Face Mask // from $15

I am a huge fan of the Mecca Cosmetica sheet masks. They are silicone/gel sheet masks that fit extremely well. I don't know about you, but I find sheet masks never fit my face well. They come in two pieces so it's easy to get them positioned on your face. They are extremely hydrating and will leave your face feel AMAZING.

Jurlique Moisture Replenish Mask // $80

I know you don't usually associate clay masks with hydration, but I love this one! It is a creamy mask rich in natural clay, precious plant oils and a blend of living energy from herbs to deeply replenish skin moisture and refresh the complexion. I find it's exactly what my dry skin needs on a really bad day.

Dull Skin

If your skin just in need of an instant boost? It's feeling a bit flat and dull, but you really want bright and luminous skin? Well these masks should help!

Oskia Renaissance Mask // $75

This one is a little bit harder to get in Australia, but can be bought from Net-A-Porter. I've only used it a couple of times because it's quite luxurious and I want to save it. It's essentially a peel in a balm. For immediate spa facial results and long term anti-ageing & brightening. Designed to increase cell turnover, boost radiance and packed with OSKIA’s trademark blend of beauty-boosting nutrients. When your skin is feeling a bit rough and is need of some smoothing and illumination, this is perfect.

Frank Body Glow Mask // $21.95

If you didn't read about this in the Dry/Dehydrated category, go back there. You'll get all the information you need about this little beauty.

Andalou Pumpkin Honey Glycolic Mask* // $16

Glycolic is my go-to product when I give my skin a bit of a boost and brighten. It is my holy grail ingredient for exfoliation as it effectively removing the outermost layer of dead cells from the complexion, revealing brighter, fresher skin (source: Skinstore). This mask is a lovely, gentle mask that gives a really lovely exfoliation but is also gentle at the same time. If you're a pumpkin lover, you'll love the fact that it feels (and smells) like you are just covering your face in pumpkin.

Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Bubble Mask Extreme* // $12.50

I did a blog post on this mask during Blogmas because I loved it so much. It is probably my favourite sheet mask EVER. It is one of the few sheet mask that I have actually seen dramatic, immediate results in my skin. I kept this on for 15 minutes, until I resembled a snowman, and then removed the mask. After cleaning my skin I was shocked by how soft, smooth and bright my skin looked. For a quick, instant fix, this is AMAZING!

Niod Flavanone Mud* // $59.00

If you're after an intensive mask that is going to clear everything and leave you with incredible skin, then this is the mask for you. It is the most intense mask I own and I use it sparingly and only every so often. I will warn you, it's an uncomfortable mask to wear, but boy does it work. You apply and it will tingle quite intensely for a while (and again when you remove it). If you can stand it, leave it on for 10 minutes, but don't be afraid to remove it if you are feeling uncomfortable, I found I had to work up to the 10 minutes. What you are left with post mask is clear, soft and radiant skin!

Congested/Blemish Prone Skin

Synergie Skin Detox Antiox Mask* //

If you need something to purge your skin, then this is the mask you want. It contains Bentonite Clay, capable of deeply cleaning facial pores and reducing the appearance of blemishes, Niacinamide, Vitamin B3, Beta Glucan and bunch of other ingredients to help reduce inflammation, deep clean pores and help with blemishes and congested skin. This is the type of mask you put on a few days before an event so that the blemishes come to the surface and then clear up quickly. It's intense and works well.

Nutrimetics Ultra Care+ Clarifying Treatment* // $69

Ultra Care+ Clarifying Clay Treatment uses powerful, skin-clearing clay to magnetically and visibly draw out dirt and congestion to revel a brighter, more clarified complexion. It gently buffs and exfoliates to remove dead skin cells, while working to tone the skin for a more youthful appearance. It is a really lovely, lightweight clay mask that sets quickly and works deeply to draw impurities out of the skin.

L'Oreal Anti-Blemish Mask // $19.99

For a cheaper alternative (even cheaper when on sale at Priceline), the L'Oreal Anti-Blemish mask is AMAZING. It is actually one of my favourite masks to help with congestion and spots. The Pure Clay Anti-Blemish Mask combines 3 Pure Clays (Kaolin, Montmorillonite and Ghassoul) with the soothing properties of Marine Algae Extract to help clear blackheads and tighten pores. You apply it and look like a smurf for 15 minutes and then remove for smoother skin. It helps to clear up blemishes and is my go-to for those bad skin days.

USPA Deep Cleansing Mud Mask* // $50

A deep cleansing mud mask designed to remove excess oils and impurities from congested skin types. Bentonite and Kaolin Clays draw out impurities and clean the pores without drying the skin. I love this mask for my bad skin days. It's gentle, but effective and leaves my skin feeling fresh afterwards as well.

Belle Botanicals Green Clay Mask* // $15.95

An underrated, natural mask that is INCREDIBLE. The French Green Clay in this mask helps to draw out impurities, while the added blend of shea butter, aloe vera and essential oils helps to soothe and protect. I still remember the first time I used this. I was amazing by how good my skin felt after using it and over the following couple of days any spots I had started to clear up quickly as well. If you need something that you know won't dry your skin out while helping to reduce spots, this is your go to. (P.S you can get it even cheaper - 10% off - by using the code: 'lifeoflaura')

Essano Rosehip Clarifying Clay Masque* // $16.99

Deep cleansing natural clays draw out impurities, dirt and toxins, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and revitalised. I absolutely love this clay mask. If you're after something more affordable that still works really well, then I would highly recommend this. It has rosehip oil in it to keep your skin feeling nourished and hydrated, but also drawing out impurities from your skin.

Alya Skin Pink Clay Mask* // $49.99

If you have oily skin, then my bet is that you would love this! Through summer I have been really enjoying it. It sucks out all the congestion in your pores, exfoliates dead skin and helps to reduce oiliness. When I use this mask, I do have to make up sure I use a good moisturiser afterwards, but if you have oily skin this would be great to help manage oily production.

Eye Masks

Eye masks are amazing for dryness, dark circles and a bunch of other benefits (which I will specify in the masks below). I love to use them when I am feeling tired or my eyes are feeling puffy, they are just a great and quick way to get your eyes in check.

Wrinkles Schminkles Eye Lift and Smoothing Kit* // $20

This rocked up in my mail box just before New Years (perfect timing) and I have been so impressed with it. It is a medical grade silicone eye mask that is designed to be worn while you sleep, during the day or for flight travel and are proven to reduce wrinkles, soften lines and hydrate the skin around your eyes. Yes, $20 may seem expensive for one set of eye masks, but bear in mind that you wear this mask all night AND can use it up to 10 times ($2 a wear), it's actually pretty affordable. Whenever I wear these I am always really impressed by how soft and hydrated my under eyes look and feel after using them. They are great for when you don't have time to wear a mask, because you just put them on while sleeping and take them off when you get up.

Blaq Hydrogel Eye Mask // $29.99

I don't know about you, but so many eye masks don't seem to stick to my face. I put them off and they slide off. Well these ones don't. They are thick, black eye gels that contain activated charcoal. They are cooling and really refreshing to use. When I need an instant de-puff and hydration boost around my eyes, these are fantastic. Put them on in the morning to give you a bit of wake up too.

So for now, these are some of the masks I use regularly when I struggling with particular concerns. I'd love to know if I have missed any, let me know in the comments. As always, there will be new releases and my choices will change so you might see some updates on this in the future.
