French Beauty Secrets

2016 saw the rise of Korean skincare and the sheet mask. They opened up a new world of skincare that us mere mortals had never experienced. It made me think about what else the world has to teach us about skincare. Another country, which has also begun to have have a huge rise is the French. Haven't you ever wondered what is it about French women that make them so effortlessly chic? Today I want to share the Top 5 French Beauty Secrets I've discovered, as well as a few of my favourite French skincare products.

1. Hydration is Key!

French beauty begins with the base and focuses on your natural features in the skin, body and hair. This also starts with being hydrated. One of the top tips? Start the day with a glass of water, then finish with a glass of water before bed. Water is the secret for flushing the body of toxins, not only improving your skin, but also your body and diet.

2. Less is More!

Something I noticed about Korean beauty? It always seemed liked more is more. French is much the opposite, keeping everything as simple as possible. Washing your hair? Less frequently is better. Lots of skincare steps? Or just a couple of good quality, but simple products? Definitely the simple products. Minimalist make up is also a big aspect of French beauty, but then again their glowing skin barely needs any.

3. Silk to Sleep!

That's right friends, time to go out and get a silk pillow case! These have started to become much more popular, and affordable recently. Why? Well squishing your face into a pillow each night may be causing you wrinkles. Sleeping on silk helps to reduce this. It will also do wonders for your hair too!

4. Massage your way to glowing skin

Who doesn't love a good massage? Aestheticians at the Darphin Paris Institute teach women to apply their face creams with a deep massaging motion, think of it like pilates for your face. The key is to take your time when you put on moisturizer. Start by pressing the heels of your hands along your jawline on both sides of your face, moving up toward the ears. Next, use fingertips to smooth on your cream from the apples of cheeks up and back toward the temples, then from the brows up toward the hairline. (Source: Marie Claire) Not only will it apply your moisturiser better, but it is so relaxing as well.

5. Find your Signature Scent

There is nothing more chic than having your own signature scent. It will take time and a lot of exploring, but finding something that makes you feel sexy, confident and fabulous.

6. Bonus Tip: Beauty is more than skin deep

Where does the glowing skin and effortlessly chic look come from? Confidence in yourself. While skincare and silk pillows can help with the outside, true beauty comes from within.

I think those small steps are fairly achievable, and I know that I now want to go out and find my signature scent! First I want to share two of my favourite French skincare brands with you:

Inspired by the skin itself, Bioderma wanted to find biological solutions to preserve the health and beauty of our skin in a long lasting way. They have a number of different ranges designed to target different skin concerns. My favourite is the Sensibo range, dedicated to targeting sensitive to intolerant skin, with or without redness.

If you haven't tried Bioderma before, I definitely recommend trying the Sensibo H20 Micellar Solution*. It is an amazing cleanser that doesn't strip the skin, removing make up while restoring the skin's natural balance. I use it as my second cleanser - removing make up with another cleanser and then following with the Micellar Solution to ensure I get every last drop of make up off and that my skin is ready for the skincare to follow.

While it's a little too dark for me, I love the Sensibo AR BB Cream*. It is perfect for covering redness and evening out skin tone, without that heavy make up feeling. I love it for non-makeup days.

Dedicated from the very beginning to the most sensitive skins, Uriage provides a full range of hypoallergenic products formulated with a unique active ingredient, Uriage Thermal Water. Save to save, I love their Thermal Water Spray* and it's become a staple in my skincare routine. I usually spray it on after cleansing my skin, or any time I'm feeling particularly dry or irritated. Instant soothing!

I also absolutely love their Thermal Micellar Wipes* which are super gentle and do an amazing job of removing make up. They don't feel like they are stripping your skin, but remove all make up really well.

I am in love with my French skincare items at the moment, as well as the ideas behind French Beauty. What is your favourite part of French Beauty?

  2. I love this post! I will be trying more of these tips! I've never tried bioderma even though it's such a raved about brand! I think I need to!

  3. Wonderful tips. I enjoyed reading this post. x

  4. I've been meaning to get a silk pillowcase for ages. Also, I love the Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water, it's the best one I've tried!

  5. I too am a huge fan of the Bioderma micellar water. Their BB cream is great,I really love it. However their 'light' shade is in my opinion not light. I'm a medium skin tone and it suits me just fine (except it is a little too cool toned) so I struggle to see it matching 'light' skin tones.

  6. This is one of my fave posts, taking good care of your skin feels soo nice and I love love bioderma

  7. I loved this, I will be giving the facial massage a try when i put my moisturiser on tonight

  8. Great Post. I love Bioderma products, from their h20 micellar solution to their shower gel and lotion.
