This Years Must Have Summer Essentials

It has been a scorcher of a summer this year. Canberra has had lots of 35 degree + days and even a few in the 40's! We travelled up to QLD to escape some of the heat that's how intense it has been this year! Naturally, being another hot summer, I have developed some summer essentials to help keep me cool and make it through the summer heat.

Sunscreen

I'll start with the obvious - Sunscreen. I don't know how anyone can survive summer with out sunscreen, or why they would want to. In the last couple of years I have become super sun conscious, not wanting to get burnt at all. This has meant that I have been slathering on the sunscreen whenever possible. Sunsense was lovely enough to send me through a supply to keep myself (and my friends) protected through the hot summer weather. The jumbo sized Sensitive Invisible Sunscreen SPF 50+* has been my favourite this summer. With my eczema being a pain at the moment, my skin has been having some moments with sunscreen, so anything designed to be gentle on the skin is a winner, and this one IS a winner.

Tote Bag

After seeing my fave friend with this gorgeous bag, I decided I needed one myself. I discovered that my local book shop stocked them and I grabbed one quick smart. The Robert Gordon Collapsible Tote Bag is just such a practical bag. It has gone everywhere with me since I bought it. It is a square tote bag that you can fit anything and everything in. I have taken it shopping, to the pool and everywhere else. I just chuck everything in and away I go!

Keep Hydrated!

Probably the most important thing to do in this heat is to keep hydrated!! I have been trying really hard to keep my fluid levels up this summer and have been spending all my spare time in the bathroom as a consequence. I have two 'bottles' that have become staples for me this summer. The first is the Frank Green Water Bottle. I literally go everywhere with this bottle (in my Robert Gordon bag ofc). I can't say it's a flash water bottle - it's not stainless steel (though you can get a stainless steel one), it doesn't have any fancy features, but it's aesthetically pleasing, it has a lockable drink feature and is a decent size (750ml). You can also get it with a chip to pay for your coffee if you wanna be super fancy!

The other bottle is not actually a bottle but a tumbler, but falls into this category anyway. The new Cheeki Stainless Steel Tumblers* are the bomb! They are insulated tumblers that come with a stainless steel straw that will keep all your drinks cold (or hot) all day long. If you are a smoothie lover I cannot recommend this enough! It is AMAZING! Fill her up and off you go with your cool refreshing beverage! Or if you are like me, you fill it with water and ice and take it up to the bath tub so you can have a bath but not over heat. Genius, I know!

Long, flowy dresses

I mean, what else could you want in summer? A light, flowy dress that also looks amazing! I recently ordered a beautiful dress with a voucher I won from Since I Found You. I picked up the Fate + Becker Endless Summer Dress and I am absolutely in love with it. It is a gorgeous yellow, flowing dress. It has a wrap style dress, but without the annoying cut all the way down - meaning no boob or high thigh flashing (the things that make me hate wrap dresses). Unfortunately it is now sold out on Since I Found You, however there are still a couple of sizes left on Birdsnest (at least there were when I wrote this post).

Smart Watch

This Christmas I decided to treat myself and I purchased an Apple Watch. It was a bit of a splurge, but I have been looking for a fitness/smart watch now that we have decided to join the gym and get into fitness more in 2019. I wanted something that could track my workouts and give me some more information about my health and fitness. After looking and researching a whole variety of watches, I decided to keep it in the family and get an Apple Watch. I have been LOVING it. It has made it so much easier to track my daily exercise, to have my phone on me less - as I get the important notifications on my watch now. It's been so good!

Accessories

Then of course it's all about the accessories. I probably could have included this accessory with the bag but that's ok. For Christmas, my wonderful friend got me a super cute The Daily Edited Feeling Fruity Clutch in the Pale Pink Watermelon. It is great because I can carry all my cards and necessities in it, as well as my phone. I can chuck it in my hand bag or carry it by itself if I am going bagless. Also it is BLOODY cute. I now want a matching phone case... (TDE if you're reading this....*wink wink*).

Then of course there is the most important summer accessory - a hat! Slip, slop, slap on a hat and be sun protected. I have been a little obsessed with straw hats recently and picked up a cute boater style one to take up to QLD with us. Granted, it was a little too small for my head, it still did it's job (though I almost lost it over the side of the infinity pool in Brisbane). If you need some cute hat inspiration, check out my selection below:

A simple, but comprehensive list if you ask me. These have been the bits and pieces that have been coming everywhere with me this summer - especially on our trip up to QLD. What have been your must have items for summer? Let me know in the comments below! xx
