The Foundation Files : Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear

It's been a little while since I've done a Foundation Files, but I thought it was about time that I jumped back on the foundation review train. Today we are going to be talking about the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear*.

Before we start, I just wanted to give you a little overview of what you can expect from all of my Foundation Files posts (if you've read a Foundation Files before, you can probably skip this, unless you need a little recap). In each review I will give you photos of my skin before application, immediately after application and at the end of the day. I will talk about how I prep my skin before applying, as well as the method that I use to apply. I will also talk about the coverage and finish, as well as how well I think it wears throughout the day. Now as for my skin type (which will impact what I think of foundations) I have dry/normal skin. I do have blemish and pigmentation concerns, particularly in my T-Zone. Without further adieu, let's get into it!

Lancôme's Teint Idole Ultra Wear was developed with the notion of lasting perfection in mind, this hard-working formulation took 8 years of meticulous research to achieve the perfect final product. Formulated with EternalSoft technology, this oil-free foundation resists all external factors to keep complexion looking fresh and shine-free for up to 24 hours without the need to touch-up. Delivers a blendable, natural-looking full coverage with a velvet matte finish for an ultra flawless effect. Essentially it is designed to give you a flawless coverage all day long.

I prep my skin as usual with my skincare and then apply a bit of the Smashbox Primerizer to my skin before applying the foundation. I have been opting for this primer because, being a slightly more matte finish, I like to have something that is going to keep my skin hydrated and smooth underneath and this primer has been perfect. To apply the Teint Idole Ultra Wear, I use a sponge, as I do with all my foundations. The foundation comes with a pump (YES!) making it super easy to put a small amount on the sponge and then apply to the skin. It is a really lovely consistency - not too thick or too thin - that blends into the skin easily. It has a medium coverage that is definitely buildable to a full coverage. The finish itself, in my opinion, is a semi matte that looks natural and lovely on the skin. I spritz with a bit of the MAC Fix+ Spray* to set and finish.

I have heard a lot of people rave about the lasting power of this foundation, so I was excited to see how it would wear throughout the day. The first thing I noticed was the colour. Now, this foundation is definitely a touch too dark for my skin, particularly in winter. It might work come summer, but for now it is a tiny bit too dark. However, I have noticed that it does oxidise slightly through the day, looking a little too orange for me at the end of the day. I haven't tried blending in any mixing drops yet (as I currently don't have any) to see if I can lighten the foundation up and see if this effects the oxidisation, but I am hoping to test that out soon, so I will update you if that helps. But this was a bit of a negative for me, as I don't want a foundation that I have to worry about changing colour throughout the day.

As for lasting power, I do have say I was really impressed. Aside from a tiny bit of patchiness around my chin and on my forehead, this foundation looked beautiful at the end of the day. I did find it went a tiny bit shiny, but not oily (just glowy), which I don't mind at  all. I do find that if my skin is particularly dry, this foundation can highlight and sit in those areas, so I probably wouldn't recommend this foundation if you have particularly dry and flaky skin. Otherwise I love how well it lasts. Aside from the oxidisation, it is one of those foundations I can put on in the morning and know that it will still look (almost) flawless come the end of the day. I am contemplating either getting a lighter shade or some lightening drops to see if that would help with the colour and oxidisation.
