The Active Solution : Amperna Skincare Review

About a month ago I started using a new skincare range to try and help with my blemishes and some of the sensitivity I had been having. AMPERNA® is a new Australian skincare range designed to suit every skin type.

For those who missed my original post on AMPERNA®, make sure you head over and check it out. You can find an overview of the products and find out more about the range from founder, Kiri Yanchenko.

As many of you know, I have struggled with eczema and acne for a while now, and in the past couple of years they have become more of a concern for me. My challenge has been finding products that help reduce acne, but also don't dry out my skin further. I was excited to try out the AMPERNA® range which is specifically designed to help soothe skin issues, including eczema and acne.

The range consists of five products:

001 CLEANSE | Ultra Gentle Soothing Cleanser*: AMPERNA® Ultra Gentle Soothing Cleanser is a gel that is activated by water - it is refreshingly gentle and lathers to a fine foam. It rinses clean without leaving an irritating residue or upsetting the skin's PH levels.
002 HYDRATE | Lightweight Soothing+ Emulsion*: This lightweight cationic moisturiser contains a probiotic, ceramides, hyaluronic acid and emollients to nourish the skin and help protect it from free radical damage. AMPERNA® Lightweight Soothing+ Emulsion contains a groundbreaking probiotic formula, along with ceramides, hyaluronic acid and emollients to nourish the skin and help protect it from free radical damage.
003 EXFOLIATE | 10% Pro+ Resurfacing Lotion*: This gentle exfoliating lotion contains 10% glycolic acid (AHA) and antioxidants to calm redness and improve the skin’s texture. Our 10% Pro+ Resurfacing Lotion is first chemical exfoliant to market that has been specially formulated for use by first time users and even the most sensitive skins.
004 REPAIR | Pro+ Vitamin C Hyaluronic Serum*: This potent, deeply hydrating serum soothes the skin while visibly targeting dullness, uneven skin tone, wrinkles and fine lines. Our Pro+ Vitamin C Hyaluronic Serum contains high levels of hyaluronic acid and antioxidants to help restore smoothness & suppleness to your skin.
005 RESCUE | Probiotic + DS Soothing Serum*: This deeply restorative formula cools and soothes irritated skin and calms redness. The copper and zinc gluconates help to limit the spread of harmful bacteria and replenish the skin barrier. Our Probiotic+ DS Soothing Serum has been tested on rosacea redness with positive results.

I have been using all the products for a month now and have been quite impressed. I was originally a little unsure what order to use the products in, but after a few weeks I found the order that worked best for me.
Morning and night I would always start with the cleanser. I would use it to first remove my make up and then a second time to cleanse my skin, make sure I had removed all the dirt and grime from my skin. While I don't usually like foaming cleansers, I didn't mind this one. Typically I find that foaming cleansers dry out my skin, however this one did not do that. It left my skin feeling soft, clean and balanced - not oily or dry, but just right.
In the morning I would then follow it with the Pro+ Vitamin C Hyaluronic Serum,  which is a lightweight serum that soaks into the skin really quickly and left my skin feeling really hydrated. I have been wanting to get Vitamin C back in my routine to help keep my skin looking glowy and gorgeous and it definitely helped with keeping my skin feeling hydrated and soft. At night I would use the 10% Pro+ Resurfacing Lotion, which is an exfoliating lotion. I was most excited by this product and I found this definitely helped with clearing up my blemishes and evening out my skin tone.

After my chosen serum I would then use the Lightweight Soothing+ Emulsion to rehydrate my skin. It had a natural finish, without an oily residue - leaving your skin feeling hydrated. At night I found I did need another moisturiser to keep my skin hydrated, but this was perfect for through the day or before make up.

There is also the Probiotic+ DS Soothing Serum. I didn't use this every day, but rather when I needed it. When I had some dryness and irritation under my eye I applied it at night and found it helped soothe my irritation within a couple of days. I also used this on my eczema and on a couple cuts that I had on my fingers from when I accidentally cut them with our new knives...yes...I am clumsy... This serum was perfect for those little irritations. I wouldn't recommend using this under make up, I found my foundation wouldn't sit on top of it. However, it does wonders helping with irritations and sensitivities.

So they all seem like good products right? But do they work? I have to say that I have noticed a HUGE improvement in my skin since I started using them. When I first started using them I was struggling with blemishes, uneven skin tone and my skin was feeling dry and tight. A month on and my blemishes have cleared up and aside from a couple of hormonal spots, my skin is looking clearer then it has in a long time. My skin is looking glowy and luminous and feeling so soft. Not only is my skin looking better but it is feeling better. My eczema has been less frequent and my skin is feeling calmer.

In the first couple of weeks I found that my skin did get worse and I had quite the breakout. It took about two weeks before my skin started to improve. While I wasn't happy with how my skin was looking in those first few weeks, it wasn't unexpected. As these products use active ingredients, the first couple of weeks of using them is a bit like a 'purge' where they are getting all of the gunk out of your pores, resulting in blemishes and skin that doesn't necessarily look happy. Around this same time I struggled with make up sitting on my skin. I assume this was part of the 'purging' process where my skin was regenerating and it was just getting used to the skincare. After the two week mark my skin made a dramatic improvement and it only got better from there. Make up started to sit nicely and my blemishes began to clear up. By the third week basically all of my blemishes had cleared up, I had a couple of hormonal spots but they were small and not very angry. By the fourth week my skin was looking glowy, clear and I was finding I didn't actually need to wear much make up at all. Overall my skin is looking the best it has in a long time and I am really happy about it. I will definitely be continuing to use these products, especially through winter when my skin is always a little bit more temperamental. The Probiotic+ DS Soothing Serum will definitely stay a favourite of mine for all my skin needs, but particularly my eczema. I haven't touched my medicated cream since getting this.
