Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink

We are all on the hunt for that perfect liquid lipstick. The one that lasts all day, doesn't budge, crack or dry your lips out. We all want something that we can apply before we leave the morning and can trust that it will look amazing when we get home at night. Well that is exactly what Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink* claims to do. Does it last?
Saturated, inky matte lips that last. Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick is a super intense, matte liquid lipstick that gives a flawless finish that stays put up to 16 hours. With a unique applicator, this lipstick may be applied with precision straight out of the bottle.

At just $19.95 it is an affordable liquid lipstick claiming to do what the most expensive liquid lipsticks do. I decided to put it to the test one day and see how well it would wear over a full day.
The other day I applied the lipstick before went out, at about 8am. While it wasn't going to be the busiest day, we were running some errands so it was as good as any day to test it out. I have taken a series of photos to show the wear through the day as well. I was wearing the shade Pioneer, a classic bright red.

8am - I usually hate applying liquid lipsticks. I find them so finicky and messy to apply. Somehow, no matter what I do I usually can't apply them without getting them everywhere. The Maybelline Super Stay has a really interesting applicator which I think I have fallen in love with it. It is easy to apply and easy to get an even, defined line around the edge of your lips with it. The lipstick itself is super pigmented, so you don't need a huge amount to apply an opaque layer. For a bright red, it was possibly the easiest liquid lipstick I've ever applied. Went on smoothly and looked amazing. Basically, it was a dream! I did use some lip liner before applying, but didn't need any to tidy it up after applying the lipstick. After applying it did feel quite tacky after applying, but quickly set.

11.30am - After a morning of bartering with some appliance stores to get the best price on a new toaster and kettle I had a check in on my lipstick. I had been drinking water and chewing gum, but no food yet. It still felt a little tacky but there was no transfer onto my water bottle. Essentially it just felt like I had lipstick on. What I was super impressed about was that it still looked amazing. There were no signs of wear or cracking. Safe to say I was impressed. Typically by this point I am wiping my liquid lipstick off because my lips are feeling tight and dry. I had none of that yet.

12.30pm - Food time! Now it was the real test. We had some tea (both hot and iced) and some scones. Not the most intense meal to eat, but a nice 'morning tea' after a morning of shopping. After finishing the meal Dave made the comment that my lips were still looking amazing, as if no sign of wear was showing through. I did a quick runner to the bathroom to check. Mostly it was looking good, however it had started to crumble in the middle of my lips. Gradually the crumbling got bad enough that I needed to wipe it off and by the time we left the mall I had very little lipstick left. All that was left was a bit of red staining.

The final verdict? While it wore off fairly quickly after eating, up until that point I was super impressed with the lipstick. It was super easy to apply, looked great and without eating it lasted really well. I am yet to find any liquid lipstick that lasts through food for me, so I can't say I was shocked or disappointed. It was more comfortable than most expensive liquid lipsticks I have ever worn. I would definitely buy another and will be continuing to wear this red. All in all, it lasted high above my expectations. I do hope that Maybelline continues to bring out more colours in this range as my only disappointment is the fact that they don't have a nude that I love.
