The Foundation Files: Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick

Welcome back to another Foundation Files! It's been a couple of weeks since my last one, but I am back with another, very different foundation to review for you!

Before we start, I just wanted to give you a little overview of what you can expect from all of my Foundation Files posts (if you've read a Foundation Files before, you can probably skip this, unless you need a little recap). In each review I will give you photos of my skin before application, immediately after application and at the end of the day. I will talk about how I prep my skin before applying, as well as the method that I use to apply. I will also talk about the coverage and finish, as well as how well I think it wears throughout the day. Now as for my skin type (which will impact what I think of foundations) I have dry/normal skin. I do have blemish and pigmentation concerns, particularly in my T-Zone. Without further adieu, let's get into it!

Today we will be talking about the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick* (if you didn't realise from both the title and the photo). Bobbi Brown claims that this is the 'ultimate nude foundation'. The update of the Foundation Stick uses a unique transparent base, plus skin tone correct pigments for an incredibly natural look. It is designed to be creamy, yet weightless that applies effortlessly and blends seamlessly so all you see is fresh, smooth and even skin. It is also designed to be water, sweat and humidity resistant. The range contains 31 different shades.

Let me be honest, stick foundations have always terrified me. Having drier skin, I am always nervous they will just be super thick and sit in all my dry patches. In saying that, I had had a lot of people recommend the Bobbi Brown stick foundation to me, saying that it is fantastic, so I had to try it.

To prep my skin I have been using the Bobbi Brown Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm*, which if you haven't realised, I am currently obsessed with. I am particularly loving the Golden Glow. I apply this all over my face and then take the stick and essentially draw all over my face. I do about three stripes down each cheek, two on my forehead, one under each eye, down the nose and a couple on my chin. Then I take a damp sponge and blend it all in. What I usually find, is that the first time I blend it, the coverage is quite light. While it still evens out my skin tone, it doesn't cover all my spots and blemishes. I usually will go back in where I need it and build it up a little bit. While it is not a full coverage, I can usually build it up to about a medium coverage.

The finish of the foundation is what surprised me. It was a really dewy and glowy finish. While I can't say it looked like 'skin' it did look really natural. It just covered everything and left my skin looking healthy. I did spray with my trust MAC Fix+ Spray* to finish.

As for lasting power - it did last well. My only concern was that it does go a bit shiny as the day goes on, so I can't see this being a great foundation for oilier skin types (but hey, I wouldn't really know). As you can see in the image below, my forehead was quite shiny at the end of the day, but the coverage is still pretty good. It did cake a little bit under my eyes, but nothing that couldn't be fixed by a quick blend with my fingers. It did wear off my chin a little bit, but I find that happens with all foundations and I don't really know how to stop that (if you have any tips, PLEASE let me know!) But overall all, my skin still had that healthy look to it and really, what more could a girl who is concerned about her skin really want at the end of the day.

The Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick actually really surprised me. It threw what I thought I knew about stick foundations out the window. It lasted well and left my skin looking really good. While it probably won't become an every day foundation for me, I am definitely glad to have it in my collection! I am also really excited to try the new Skin Long-Wear Foundation now as well. Have you tried any Bobbi Brown foundations before? What are your thoughts? xx
