Summer Essentials

I feel like I do one of these every year, but it wouldn't be summer if I didn't update you on what things are helping me to get through summer. So grab a cuppa (or an iced tea, because let's be real, it's too hot for a cuppa), and sit back and have a read of my 2018 Summer Essentials.

Sunscreen

It wouldn't be a summer essentials post if I didn't talk about sunscreen. You know the speech now about how important it is to protect your skin from the sun. My problem is that I usually hate wearing sunscreen because it feels thick and heavy on my skin. This year, I have actually found some sunscreens that actually feel nice on the skin, while still protecting me from the sun.

Le Tan Let's Go Coconuts!* / from $11.99

Le Tan has released new sunscreen just in time for summer. Le Tan has tested their sunscreen under the strictest conditions in Australia to create the best product to protect you this summer. What they have produced is a formula that is sweat resistant, 4 hours water resistant and that won't run into your eyes. Best of all it contains Coconut Water to keep your skin hydrated, but not left feeling greasy. Also it smells AMAZING! They come in handy little squeezy tubes in SPF 15+, SPF 30+ and SPF 50+. If the squeezy tube isn't really your jam, you can also get them in spray bottles too. For an affordable sunscreen option that doesn't leave you with that sticky sunscreen feeling, I couldn't recommend these enough!

Darphin Soliel Plaisir / $62

For a slightly more high end option, I have been also loving the Darphin sunscreen I received from Emma Hoareau. It is a cream that I've been using (sparingly) on face and body and it is amazing. It does not feel like sunscreen at all, rather just a delicious smelling moisturiser. Yes it's pricey, and I may never buy it again, but it feels luxurious is SPF 50+ and is so easy to use, so it's been a huge winner for me!

Sunsense Moisturising Face Lotion* / $14.49

While a lot of people aren't too fussed about using sunscreen all over their body, including their face, I personally much prefer having a dedicated face sunscreen. Something that is a little lighter and that I know won't clog my pores. The Sunsense Moisturising Face Lotion is an SPF 50+ lotion that protects from both UVA and UVB and doesn't feel like sunscreen (can you sense a pattern yet?). It is lightweight and hydrating, but oil free so it doesn't clog your pores or cause blemishes. I find I can wear it comfortably under make up if I need to as well.

Sunsense Cooling Creme Gel* / $6.99

While we all do our best to not get sunburnt, sometimes it just happens. And it sucks when it does. I always have a cooling gel on hand for when this happens (and with Mr TLOL around, it happens a lot). The Sunsense Cooling Creme Gel has been one I've used year in, year out. It is enriched with Vitamins C & E and Grape Seed polyphenols to help reduce the signs of skin ageing. I find that it helps to cool and calm sunburn, but also just rehydrate your skin once you've been out in the sun for a while. Just the one stop shop for post-sun skincare.

Skincare

My skincare always changes come summer. I want skincare that is easier and lighter because in the heat heavy skincare just sits in your pores and leaves you feeling clogged. Also, my skin doesn't need as much attention in summer, so I want skincare that reflects that.

Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist / from $43

I don't tend to use mists throughout the year, but in summer I bloody love them. I actually  got this mist inside my Look Fantastic Advent Calendar this year and was SO EXCITED! I have to say, of all the mists I have tried it is probably my most favourite one (and I don't really like mists). It is the finest mist I have ever used (YES I KNOW IT'S ACTUALLY A MIST), so it's easy to spray over the face without feeling like you're being attacked, or without just getting one direct line of spray into your eye. It is perfect for rehydrating and refreshing the skin through the day, if it's a really hot day I'll pop it in the fridge to make it even more refreshing to use. I also use it to set my make up as well.

Cinch Face Cheat(er)* / $39.99

You might all remember from last year how obsessed I was with the Cinch Face Cheat Spray*. Well get excited again, because they've released more! While I don't want to go into too much detail about the new Face Cheat(er) here, as I will be doing a full post on them, it had to go into my summer essentials because it's been my go-to daily moisturiser since it arrived at my doorstep. It is a lightweight moisturiser that gives your skin the most beautiful glow. It is like the mist, but a little bit more intense. I have been loving wearing this under my foundation as a moisturiser or even a primer because it has just been helping to give my skin the most gorgeous luminous glow (which, let's be real, is what we all want!)

Clinique Even Better Glow / $55

While this isn't skincare, I feel like it's linked so I had to throw it in. For my base in summer, I want a lightweight foundation that gives a decent amount of coverage, but doesn't look like I am wearing foundation. The Even Better Glow from Clinique has been my go-to on a daily basis. It is a glowy, hydrating and luminous foundation that gives a light to medium coverage, that just makes your skin look so healthy. I will be going into more detail about this little gem in the next few weeks in my new Foundation Files series, so stay tuned to find out more about it!

Other Stuff

Cool title for this category Laura....Yea, well the rest of my essentials are a random assortment of goodies, so it seemed appropriate.

Zoku Stainless Steel Bottle* / $34.99

You can't go through summer without a water bottle. I am hopeless at keeping hydrated, but I really do try to get my water intake up during the warmer months. My gorgeous Zoku bottle has been a lifesaver though. It is what the name describes, a stainless steel water bottle. However, it is amazing. On the website it says 'the Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Bottle makes sure cold beverages stay that way for up to 70 hours'. And you know what, it does exactly that. I think part of the reason I don't drink a lot of water is because I like is ice cold, and after 5 minutes in the summer heat, water isn't ice cold any more. This water bottle ACTUALLY KEEPS WATER COLD! No, I am not being paid to say that, I am just so bloody impressed. I took this with me to the pool one day. It sat in my car while I went to the shops, and then in the sun when I was swimming. After a couple of hours, when I decided it would be a good idea to rehydrate, the water was still as cold as it was when I took it from the fridge in the morning. It is honestly amazing. They come in 2 sizes - 25oz (750ml) and 18oz (500ml) and I could not recommend them more. Seriously, it has changed my summer.

CoolXChange 2-in-1 Compression Bandage*^ / from $13.50

This one is a little bit different, but definitely something that both myself and Mr TLOL have been reaching for a lot this summer. It is a compression bandage, designed help provide pain relief from muscle sprains and strains by drawing heat out of the injured area. This is another thing that I will be going into more detail about over the coming weeks, but I just wanted to touch on it quickly. In my attempt to be more active, I do find that past injuries have been deciding to reappear, particularly my foot (which some of you may remember, I broke just over a year ago). What this bandage helps to do is provide pain relief with a cooling sensation. If I am finding that I have pain somewhere, for example my foot, I simple wrap the bandage around the area and let it rest there for as long as I need, up to 2 hours. It is a great alternative to icing injuries, as it will cool the area, in the same way an ice pack would, but without getting that super painful, uncomfortable coldness that an ice pack gives you. It has been an awesome recovery method for summer exercise! Don't worry, if you're intrigued by this (which you should be!) I will be going into WAY more detail before the month is out!

TrackR Bravo* / $49.99

Since moving, and having way more keys and remotes to carry around I have somehow seemed to become more forgetful. I can't count the amount of times I have panicked thinking I lost my keys, or the garage remote, or something. The TrackR Bravo has been an awesome help though. I have both the Bravo* and the Pixel* (a cheaper model) currently attached to keys and remotes and they have been a huge help this summer. They connect to an app on my phone, and when I think I've lost my keys I simply go into the app and tap 'start searching' and the tracker will instantly make a noise to help me find it. It is a simple thing, but it has been a lifesaver more then once for me. I think they are great if you're travelling as well, I could see this being handy if you are camping or backpacking somewhere!

Anyway, those are all the things that I have been loving this summer (and probably couldn't have survived without...), but I would love to hear yours! Let me know in the comments what your 2018 Summer Essentials are! Is there something SUPER IMPORTANT that I have missed from my list? Make sure you let me know xx
