Blogmas Day 16: Saint Valentine

In my opinion, there is one thing that Canberra has been missing, a beautiful little florist that does simple, but unique floral arrangements that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. Nestled amongst the cosy Hackett shops you will find the answer to these prayersl the beautiful Saint Valentine, a cosy, romantic florist and gift shop.

A few months ago I discovered Rachel and Saint Valentine on Instagram, just before she opened, and immediately fell in love with the beautiful floral arrangements she creates. Fell in love so much that Mr TLOL and I immediately asked her to do the flowers at our wedding.
Anyway, that isn't what I wanted to talk about today (because I am sure I will talk about that soon enough).

After working in social work and child protection, Rachel decided she needed a change. In 2016 she decided to complete a floristry course at CIT. Soon after graduating she started selling flowers at the Old Bus Depot Markets. With a dream to open her own store, she took the leap this year, opening Saint Valentine in Hackett.

Rachel's store is possibly the cosiest place I've ever been to. Inside you will be able to pick up your own bouquet (starting from $25) or an array of other plants, including herbs and succulents. Every time I go in Rachel has more, gorgeous and unique flowers in store. If you are after something a little different she also stocks lots of cute gifts from local makers. She has everything you need for those last minute Christmas Gifts!

Speaking of Christmas, you can get all your Christmas needs at Saint Valentine. Rachel has begun making Christmas Wreaths. Yes...CHRISTMAS WREATHS! And they are the most beautiful things I have ever seen. You can get small wreaths or large wreaths. She made me a beautiful native wreath with Eucalyptus and Flowering Gum*, with a gorgeous blue ribbon. It's just one of the many styles that she can do though (you can check out those below). Prices for these start from $30. Best of all they actually last, so its not like you have to throw it out after Christmas this year, you can hold on to it for next year too! You can also pick up table centre pieces starting from $90 (or you can go along to her workshop on Saturday, aka today) where you can create your own! There are still tickets available, click here to find out more!).

If you are in need of gifts though, she also has the most amazing collection of handmade gifts scattered around the store. There is something inside for everyone. All the gifts inside are made by local artists, lots of them based right here in Canberra! Art from local resin artist, Grace Louise, earrings from Zoe's Button Emporium and the most beautiful ceramic bowls, plates, cups and ring dishes. I picked myself up a couple of pairs of earrings while I was there, including an adorable pair to wear on Christmas Day (I'll save them for my Christmas Jewellery post, but make sure you go in and check out the other cute options!). I also picked up two of those ceramic plates (pictured below) because they are just so gorgeous and so unique.

For the green thumb you can pick up some seeds, books or a planting calendar from The Little Veggie Patch Co. Rachel has so many different seeds to choose from, including herbs and veggies!

There are a variety of delicious smelling soaps from Aedel and Maple that smell amazing! There are gorgeous little ceramic houses that would look gorgeous on the mantelpiece.

Don't forget the candles, she has a selection of Little Flame Co Candles (including the delicious Merry Christmas Pudding candle). If you need help deciding on which one, I would highly recommend the Pink Peony or the Sea Salt and Caramel, they are two of my favourite, but you can't really go wrong with any choice.

For the kids there are some gorgeous felt animals (I mean just look at that Dachshund!) and the most beautiful little rocking horse.

Rachel has also acquired the most beautiful little Christmas Cards as well, and you can't complete any Christmas gift without a card, so make sure you grab one while you're in the store too!

While those are all very attractive options, you can also never go past picking up one of her beautiful options (which I know is a hard ask), you can never go past a beautiful bunch of flowers!

For a business that has only been open for a short while, Rachel is absolutely killing it and I am a huge fan of her work. Her store is absolutely gorgeous, cosy and friendly. She has been doing flowers for Palace Electric Cinemas, contributed to The Big Conference run by  The Women's Collective, flowers for here. Wellbeing, as well as locking in weddings (including mine!!!), running beautiful workshops and providing Canberra with beautiful bunches of flowers day in, and day out. Aside from all that, she is also just the loveliest lady ever, so make sure you stop by and say hi, pick up a bunch of flowers and some goodies from Saint Valentine.
