Beauty Redefined | Natural Beauty + Nutrition Masterclass with Lola Berry

Nutritionist and wellness advocate Lola Berry has become the go-to girl for healthy recipes that taste delicious. She is an inspiration for good eating habits that make you look and feel beautiful inside and out and favours a natural approach to beauty.
Take notes as the healthy influencer shares insight into her wholistic approach to beauty and her top secrets for what you should be eating for a flawless complexion. In addition to her inner/outer beauty recipes, Lola will divulge the products she loves and uses in her daily regimen for glowing skin.

To celebrate the opening of the Monaro Mall at Canberra Centre there were a series of master classes run in the beautiful new precinct. When I heard that Lola Berry was going to be running one, I could NOT say no. I have owned a number of Lola Berry's cookbooks and have always been a massive fan of her, she just seems like the most beautiful human ever.

If you haven't heard of Lola before, I must ask...have you been living under a rock?! She is such a beautiful human being, charismatic and so down to earth. One of the most genuine people you will ever meet! With a Bachelor of Health Science, Lola Berry knows what she's talking about and operates on the secret that the most nutritious, healthy food is also the tastiest.

Did you know that Lola Berry's real name is Lauren Smith, but her boyfriend at the time told her that he couldn't date someone with the same name as his sister, so he was going to call her Lola instead.

We all want to have flawless skin, it's the dream right!? Well food plays a really big role in how your skin looks. If you're not eating a well balanced diet and feeding your body bad food most of the time, than your skin is going to reflect that. Let's set things straight first - that chocolate bar that you really want to eat, it's not bad, as long as it's in moderation. One of the biggest tips Lola shared was centred around guilt. Dropping the guilt associated with food is key. So what if you have a bad day and eat rubbish all day? Tomorrow is a fresh start for you to start again.

So what are some important things to do to get gorgeous, flawless skin? There were two types of ingredients that Lola recommended to get gorgeous skin is oil and fat. Not what you expected, I bet. Oil's are important both in your diet and topically. Lola is known for having a jar of organic coconut oil in the bathroom to apply on her skin, hair and anywhere that needs it. When she had her gorgeous, long, mermaid hair, Lola would apply a mix of extra virgin and coconut oil through her mid lengths and ends to keep them gorgeous and healthy. Then there was fat, where she busted the myth that fat actually does make you fat. You shouldn't be scared of fats - avocado, salmon, coconut oil, nut butters, they are all good for your skin. As Lola says, it's going to make your skin 'f***ing phenom".

'Love who you are! You are beautiful and awesome, and no one looks the same as you. Make up is all about highlighting what is naturally within'

Lola also shared some of her top beauty tips:

  • SPF: Protect your skin from the sun!! One of the easiest way to speed up ageing is to spend lots of time in the sun without protection. Lola is never without a zinc or SPF, whether it's for her face or hands. She doesn't like to slather on make up, rather opting for a tinted moisturiser with SPF. Her top pick was the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder.
  • Take care of your hands: Your hands are the part of your body that show age the fastest. Lola is big on taking care of her hands, wearing face masks on the back of her hand, massaging moisturiser in as well. Going to get your nails done? Slather on some sunscreen to protect your hands from the lights.
  • Highlighter is the best beauty trick: and also a non-negotiable part of Lola's make up. Now she doesn't wear much make up, but she always wears highlighter because it helps to really enhance your natural beauty. She has a couple of favourites. Any of the Charlotte Tilbury highlighters (she's a big CT fan, understandably!) and also the Kryolan Shimmering Event Highlighter.
  • Face masks: YES FACE MASKS!! Lola does a Glam Glow two to three times a week, favouring the YouthMud and Firming masks. If she's not doing a Glam Glow mask, she is making up her own concoction of food - avocado, cacao nibs, banana, you name it!

It was so inspiring hearing Lola speak. She is such a gem and just full of wisdom. I'd love to take a yoga class with her and get to know her, because she is just so down to earth. I'd like to finish with one of the biggest tips she shared throughout everything - don't beat yourself up. We all have good days and bad days and we shouldn't let the bad ones get us down. Tomorrow is always a new day to start fresh.
