Winter Hydration with Hydroskin

7:00 am

While sweaters are probably my favourite item of clothing, I hate winter. Why? Because my skin never handles it well. It ends up dry, flaky and just not very enjoyable. To help attempt to prevent, or at least minimise this, I go all out on the hydration, particularly in my skincare. Hyaluronic Acid has become a key ingredient in so many hydrating skincare products at the moment and I have been loving it. So, naturally, when I was given the chance to try some products from HydroSkinCare I couldn't pass up the opportunity! I have been using these products for about two months now and thought it was about time to share my thoughts.

So Hyaluronic Acid? Let's talk about that first. Now, I am no scientist, so if you're looking for an in depth understanding of HA, you've come to the wrong place. HA is not like other acids such as salicylic or glycolic that exfoliate away dead skin cells. It’s actually a natural-component of your skin, is in your skin’s connective tissues. It has a high level of moisturising properties because it can carry up to 1,000 times its weight in water molecules. It draws water to the skin and also helps prevent moisture loss. (Thanks Vogue for that helpful information). So essentially it is a a great ingredient to help increase hydration in the skin, whether you have dry or oily skin. I have used a few products with HA in it lately and have been loving them.

Now a little bit about HydroSkinCare:

HydroSkin only uses clinically effective ingredients in quantities that work. Each product has been stripped back to contain the most beneficial ingredients, proven to enhance skin or increase the safety of the formulation. You will never find toxins, extenders, fillers, parabens, sulphates, fragrances or any other nasties in our skincare, these additives compromise the pathway to healthy skin. That is the HydroSkin promise.
They combine nature and science to give it to you straight, providing you effective skincare. The best part - 95% of HydroSkin’s ingredients are sourced locally, from Australia. But let's get into the products I've been using, because I know that's what you really want to hear about!

I jumped right into using these routines, so my skin reacted a fair bit at first and I had quite the break out. This cleared up pretty quickly, within a week or two, but I just wanted to share that for anyone that decides to take the dive. When you completely mix things up your skin can get a little uncomfortable and react. Don't stress about a few spots, they should clear up. However if it is a serious reaction, or symptoms continue, discontinue use and see your GP.

So let's talk about The 3 Steps*. The 3 Steps is a set which will soothe, plump, hydrate and brighten skin, reduce redness, fade age spots, reduce little wrinkles and refresh healthy skin tone. Everything you could want from a skincare routine and more. The set contains:
  • Hydro Mist for brighter, less pigmented skin.
  • [HA] Serum for increased collagen production and plump, wrinkle-free skin.
  • C Moisturiser to lock in hydration, fade age spots and defend skin from free radicals.
What I do first, is cleanse with their cleanser* (which is not apart of the three step routine) but is a fantastic super simple cleanser, which I love. I don't like frills when it comes to cleansing, all I want is something that is going to get rid of the dirt and grime in my skin, all without feeling stripped and dry. This cleanser does all of that for me, so it's been a big winner. It is a super gentle cleanser, but does so well at removing making and cleansing the skin.

Anyway, back to The 3 Steps. Step 1, post closing is the Hydro Mist* Hydro Mist uses Vitamin B to reduce hyper-pigmentation and natural organic humectants to hydrate, brighten and lighten the skin. Hydro Mist will fade age spots, reduce red blotchiness, improve hydration and soften wrinkles. The instructions to say spray approximately 10-12 pumps to the face, neck and chest. Look, I haven't been counting, but I just spray until I feel like my whole is dripping wet.

Then, very quickly after doing that I move on to step 2 applying the [HA] Serum*. HydroSkin’s [HA] Serum contains both miniHA™ and high molecular weight HA (Hyaluronic Acid). Their combined effect produces rapid hydration and increased plumpness and luminosity. So your skin should be moist thanks to the Hydro Mist in step 1, then you applying about 3-4 pumps to your face and neck.

Finally, while the [HA] Serum is still damp on the skin, you finish with step 3, the C Moisturiser*. The Vitamin C Moisturiser utilises an advanced, non-irritating, stable Vitamin C (AAP) that reduces redness and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. APP’s non-irritating nature means it can be used in truly effective amounts. Again, apply about 3-4 pumps to your neck and face while your skin is still damp. Follow with your choice of SPF in the morning to protect your skin!

The Verdict

It's a pretty quick and easy routine, but does it work? Well I have to say, I have been loving them. Despite my mini hiccup that I mentioned earlier in the post when my skin broke out pretty badly, it's been all good! After my break out cleaned up, my skin improved so much, especially the hydration levels. My skin was soft and clear, the redness in my skin less obvious, to be honest my skin was looking better than it had in a while. As for hydration, well I am so impressed! While it is kind of a damp process with the mist and everything, by the time you get to the moisturiser and let it sit on the skin, any dampness or oiliness from the products are gone, leaving your skin feeling hydrated but not wet or oily, but the hydration definitely lasts. This set definitely going to be a must through winter.

I can't comment on the anti-ageing properties, as I don't have signs of ageing yet, but I have definitely been impressed with how my skin has been looking and feeling!

On another note, the packaging is gorgeous and I love that everything is in a pump. Makes it super easy to get the product out and way more hygienic as well!
I have also been using the Salt Scrub with Alaea Red Clay* as a part of the routine, and this, I think, has also been a huge help to my skin. Using this after cleansing, I massage it into dry skin for about 30 seconds before rinsing off. This has definitely helped in leaving my skin feeling soft. When my skin gets a bit flaky from dryness, I use this and my skin looks way better.

I was already a fan of Hyaluronic Acid before using the HydroSkin products, but I think they have won me over even more. Simple, but smart, with real results. If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend checking them out if you haven't already!

  1. Hyaluronic acid is my jam & I definitely notice my skin getting drier during winter, so I might have to look into purchasing some of these products at some stage. The Hydro Mist sounds great (my skin seems to like niacinamide & B vitamins) & I do love a good, "wet feeling" facial mist!

  3. Oh wow....you have educated me on Hyaluronic Acid which I had no idea was a natural part of our skins process. I thought that anything with the word acid included would be too harsh fro me to use. Now im interested.

I'm on my second bottle of the cleanser and HA, and mist has so much in it I haven't needed to replace it yet even after abut 5 months of using them!
