Royal Essence Ring Candles

8:30 am

There is nothing better than a home full of candles (in my opinion anyway). Having your house smell delightfully delicious. There is something cosy and welcoming about having candles burning around the place as well. But what if your candle could give you more than just a delightful smell? What if there was an exciting surprise waiting to be found inside your candle? With Royal Essence each and every candle comes with exactly that! Inside each candle is a beautiful ring, just waiting to be found.

Royal Essence is a proudly Australian, family owned business. They strive to create candles that that are unique to the Australian market at the most reasonable price possible. What they created were beautifully scented candles, each with a ring valued between $10 and $2,000 inside.

So how does it all work?! Well step one is to scroll through the site endlessly trying to decide from all the delicious scents which one you want. Then when it arrives, you just burn it like a normal candle. Eventually you will see a small foil package start to appear at one side of the candle. I let my candle burn until you could see quite a bit of the foil package, before using a pair of tweezers to gently pull it out. However, you can also use a spoon to dig it out as well. You do need to be careful as you open the foil, as there will be a piece of paper inside that informs you of the value of your ring. For those lucky enough to have a ring valued between $1,000 and $2,000 then you will have to apply to have your ring sent out.

It all sounds pretty great right? But is it worth all the hype and excitement? Lets talk about the candle first. I was actually really impressed with my candle. I ordered the Cinnamon Doughnut* scent, and it really does smell amazing. It reminds me more of a caramel than doughnuts, but either way it is super delicious and a smell I love my home smelling like. At $47, I don't think it is too over priced. For a Glasshouse candle, you pay about the same amount, and I would say the Royal Essence candles remind me a lot of the Glasshouse ones. They have a total burn time of 80 hours as well, so it will last you a long time. Sure you can get cheaper candles, but will they last as long and smell as good? I don't think they always do.

They say it takes about 10-15 hours to fully reveal the ring, however I started to notice it after a few hours of burning. The little bit of foil started to appear. I let it keep going until I started to see it more clearly, and then used a spoon and some tweezers and pulled it out. I did get a little nervous that I had a punctured the foil, but do not fear, the ring was in a little zip lock bag, so it gets no wax on it whatsoever! The ring I received was an 18K Gold Plated Ring with Ruby valued at $60. I actually love my ring! I don't usually love gold jewellery, but this ring is so sweet. Despite it being hugely too big for any of my fingers (even my thumb), however it is so beautiful. Does it feel like a super expensive ring? No, but look it is only worth $60, which is more than the candle itself is worth, so I definitely got good value out of this candle.

Royal Essence have now also started doing Ring Bath Bombs (WHAT?!). Yes, you heard me correctly - a bath bomb, WITH a ring inside. I picked up the Oatmeal, Milk and Honey Bath Bomb*. The Oatmeal in this bath bomb is great for dry and itchy skin. This bath bomb designed to leave your skin feeling softened and hydrated all day.

At $25, these are a little pricey for a bath bomb, and would definitely be a special occasion or gift bath bomb, not an every day one. In saying that my first impression was 'wow, this really smells amazing!' After putting it in the bath, as it slowly fizzed away, I quickly realised that the bath bomb was very hydrating and soothing to the skin. I was really impressed. It wasn't a super bubbly bath, or a super fancy bath, but it did do exactly what it asked for, so I have no complaints. The ring floated to the top after the bath bomb finished, it was encased in another ziplock bag, inside a clear case. The ring I received in the bath bomb was 18K White Gold Plated Ring with Amethyst, also valued at $60. I really like this ring also. It definitely feels a little more expensive and high end than the ring in the candle, and look if the shape of the gem was the same as the Candle, then I would honestly love it even more. It is clear to see that the rings are made quite big, to fit everyone, and they may need to be resized to fit my itty, bitty fingers, but that is probably the biggest negative I have with all of it.

So, are they worth it? Look, I had so much fun with these two. It is so exciting waiting and watching in anticipation. I checked my candle so many times to see whether the ring was ready for me to pull out or not. And waiting for the bath bomb to reveal the ring was really exciting too (though it happened much faster). I don't know that I would repurchase the bath bomb time and time again, but I probably would buy more candles. The scent is strong and they last so long (no I didn't mean for that to rhyme...it just happened) and they really are worth the value for money. I think they would make amazing gifts and I would definitely buy these as presents for friends and family in the future, especially for those people who 'have everything'. Plus some of the scents sound amazing - like Fairy Bread?!

  13. I think these would make cute gifts but I don't think I'd buy them for myself. The fact that the ring drives up the price is a bit disappointing though because I would love to try that Cinnamon Doughnut one just for the candle. Great review :)

  17. These sound and look amazing, I'll have to try them one day! I've tried a similar competitor in the past and would love to see how they compare.

It's a shame when you fall in love with the ring and it doesn't fit, though!
