The Hair Brush Revolution

8:28 am

Don't you wish your hairbrush would straighten, smooth and make your hair look amazing just by combing through your hair? How easy would getting ready in the morning be if your hair brush did all of that! Well, my friends, that is exactly what the Hairstyla* claims to do! Using ionic technology, the Hairstyla smooths and tames frizz, while protecting the hair, straightening your hair quick and easy! I have been putting the Hairstyla to the test, because I'm sure you are all wondering whether it actually works like it says it does or not!

The Technical Aspects

Let's start with the technical aspects of the Hairstyla. The Hairstyla comes in a beautiful box, with a velvet bag to carry your brush around as you travel. The chord has a super handy velcro strip so that you will never end up with a tangle chord again (genius!!). The Hairstyla itself has three buttons on the handle - the on/off switch, and a plus and minus button to change the heat setting. You can adjust the temperature from 80 degrees all the way to 230 degrees, making it suitable for all hair types. For my thick hair I usually use it at around 180 to 200 degrees. My favourite feature is the automatic shut-off feature. Forget to turn it off? No worries! It will automatically turn off after 60 minutes. It is a little weightier than your GHD and than your usual hair brush, but not uncomfortably heavy.

Now does it actually straighten?!

I am not going to lie. I was skeptical...I have thick hair and I find it a pain in the butt to straighten, so I did not think that the Hairstyla would work for my hair. However, I was really impressed. First attempt and my hair was flat, sleek and straight. The main difference I noticed between my hair straightener and the Hairstyla was that my hair had a little more volume with the Hairstyla. It wasn't as flat as it is when I use my hair straighten, which I loved. I like to have a little bit of volume, so that works well for me! I often find that I get knots in my hair when I use my hair straightener, but that is no longer an issue with the Hairstyla, because the brush actually gets rid of knots while straightening.

I had put my hair in ponytail while it was still wet, so I had plenty of bumps and kinks in my hair that I had to get out while straightening. The results:

(left hand side is unstraightened, right side has been straightened with the Hairstyla)

As you can probably see, it did an awesome job on my typically unruly hair. I was so impressed by how straight it actually was. I was definitely wrong to be skeptical, but all my doubts were pushed aside when I had a play. I have been nothing but impressed with mine and at $120 it is very reasonably priced for the quality that you get. You can pick your Hairstyla up at Big W, Myer, David Jones, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys or online at the My Hairstyla website (with free shipping I might add!)

  4. I think Myer (website) has it at $99 as an introductory price. I'm sure that they will revert it back to $120 after some time, but not sure when.
