Why a face mask should be your best friend - PART ONE

I'm pretty vigilant in my skin care regime - I cleanse morning and night, I use an eye cream, toner and a day and night moisturiser, as well as other serums, I exfoliate every couple of days, but my favourite part of my skin care regime, and the part I bet most of you neglect is a weekly face mask (I pat you on the back if you regularly use a face mask).

We cleanse, we exfoliate, but should you be regularly using a face mask? Most definitely! While cleansing will remove dirt, oil and make up from your face, a face mask penetrates even deeper into your skin, drawing out impurities that are embedded deep within your skin. This helps to make your skin cleaner, clearer and more nourished!

So it just helps to clean your skin? Why do we really need to use a face mask so regularly? Well here's my 5 top tips for why a face mask really needs to become your best friend!

1. Deep cleansing
The most obvious reason for wanting to use a mask is for deep cleansing and unclogging those pores. Sure, cleansing each day helps to clean your skin by removing dirt, oil, makeup and impurities from the surface of the skin, but that weekly face mask helps to remove the other stuff that's deep in your pores, along with the excess oils and sweat that may build up in your skin too. Masks are awesome for deep cleansing that will lead to the improvement in appearance of pores, to make you both look and feel better!

2. Improving your overall health
Facial masks improve the overall health of your skin, making it look younger and radiant. They help to improve blood circulation which will make you skin feel smoother and softer. It also helps to clear up those pesky blemishes, which all help you to look and feel better, leading to more confidence (well it did for me anyway) in your appearance and you skin will both feel and look healthier - it leads to what you've always desired! Glowing skin!

3. Can greatly help reduce acne
Once you find the mask for you it can have a great effect on your skins appearance. I struggled with blemishes and acne quite badly before I began regularly using a mask. Since using a face mask once a week my skin has improved so much! I still get the occasional spot or break out, but it has diminished ten fold. When I see some spots start to show up I know its time to pop a face mask on. Doing so helps to clean our your skin and helps those spots clear up faster and appear less frequently.

4. Hydration
The water in the product will be absorbed into the deep layers of the skin working to increase its elasticity and soften it from the inside out. When skin has been properly moisturized, it gives off a fuller, more youthful appearance. Another perk of thoroughly hydrated skin is that it allows for an easier application of makeup. Using the right mask for your skin type can help to moisturise and nourish your skin, which leads to softer, better looking skin.

5. Relaxation
This is probably my favourite reason of all! Face masks provide more than just benefits for your skin. It is also extremely therapeutic. I always fine that I put on a face mask when I'm stressed, or a little down (or just bored in general...you can bet I have one on right now...) It is the perfect way to just forget about your worries for a little while. Set aside some 'me time,' pop one on, jump in the bath, lie down somewhere with a book or even meditate for 20 minutes. Using a face mask should be treated as a luxury, a time out from your busy schedule, the thing that you look forward to most in your week, you’ll be drawn into a wonderful experience that will not only relax the mind and spirit but will also leave you with fabulous looking skin.

If I have by now convinced you that your face mask should be your best friend, there is something wrong....for those who I have, stay tuned for another article to come about how to use a face mask, and my face mask of choice (as well as some other fun suggestions!!)
